REST help
Hi all, I am trying to build a RESTful shopping cart and I have hit a small wall, but before I get to that let me explain what I have done thus far. I have two RESTful controllers, CartController and CartItemsController with a nested routes setup like so map.resources :carts do |carts| carts.resources :cart_items, :collection => {:empty => :delete} end (I added a custom route to

A few fixes to eager loading issues
Hey all, I''d really appreciate some eyes on https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994-ruby-on-rails/tickets/5845-activerecord-3-eager-loading-fail#ticket-5845-19. There''s a small issue in Rails 3 eager loading, and this ticket has an accompanying patch. Sssociations that show up twice in a Relation chain like: Article.includes(:comments).includes(:comments =>

Page 129 of Agile Web Dev on Rails (or pg141 of pdf!)
Hi - another question, sorry.... I''m trying to get the highlighting effect to work on the current_item. The page refreshes fine, and then I get an error as the highlighting code is fired: page[:current_item].visual_effect :highlight, :startcolor => "#88ff88", :endcolor => "#114411" The error

@session['user'] vs session[:user]
This might seem really simple to some but just wanted to ask: what is the difference between @session[''user''] and session[:user] ? and how would you use each? And another question, I have the following code: def get_customer if @session[''customer''] @c = Customer.find(@session[''customer'']) end end private def

Nested hash from form params into create()?
Hi, I''m really excited about getting the create() method working on a nested hash. The Rails book make it seem like I''m close to doing the right thing but I think something very small is not quite right. The error at the below isn''t giving any hints that I understand. I have a form that produces a nested params hash and sends it to my add_to_cart controller method.

Depot - empty_cart with ajax
First of all id like to say hi to everyone from Argentina, im yet another Depot first-timer. Going through the example, i got to the point where my cart finally runs Ajax-based. And there is a line where Dave says, after all the job is done "You should see the cart in the sidebar update. And you shouldn''t see your browser show any indication of reloading the page. You''ve

Errors ... errors and errors.
I bought the second edition of the ruby on rails, it seems to work fine now, did some adjustments to the code. But now I get a second error and I want to learn to understand to fix them myself. So here is the error. ArgumentError in StoreController#add_to_cart wrong number of arguments (1 for 0) #{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/cart.rb:15:in `initialize'' #{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/cart.rb:15:in

RJS to find an element
I''m trying to implement a remove from cart method based on the examples in the second edition Agile book. I have everything working except for the RJS that removes items from the cart. Ideally what I''d like to do is highlight an element that I am deleting only if there is more than one of that particular item in the cart. If the item deleted is the only of

ArgumentError in StoreController#add_to_cart: wrong number of arguments (1 for 0)
I am really new to Ruby and Rails but as you probably see I am trying to get the shopping card working from the book. I am getting this error but I really don''t know what to do. I have looked up several of topics that stated the same problem but as far as I am, nothing has helped me out yet. Is there something wrong with the Product model? This is in the StoreController and I believe it

My AAF tweaks
I have had to fix a few issues with AAF in order to get it working well for myself in a production environment. I''m using the latest "release" version which is 0.4.1: 1) When there is no index in place, every request starts a new rebuild. While there is some code in place to allow this to happen during testing, personally I see no reason to even test for this,

Newcomer perceived problems with AAF/Ferret
I blogged about some of the problems with aaf in production (http://www.jroller.com/BrightCandle) yesterday but inspired by the poitive response I thought I would share the perceived problems and discuss some of the potential solutions to help newcomers and make aaf work as if by magic just like Rails does. All of these problems boil down to one simple problem, running acts as ferret in a

using conditions
Hello guys, I''m pretty new to using AAF and am having a slight problem with using a condition. I have the following code @results = SupplierProduct.find_by_contents(params[:search], :conditions => [''area_id = ?'', @area]) and it seems the condition isn''t being applied. Does anyone have any pointers? Cheers, Alastair -- Posted via
