CentOS 4.x - Kickstart
Anyone point me in the direction of a good howto on kickstarting an 1850
or 2850 with the latest 4.x release - I presume one does not use a ks
floppy anymore as the kernel would be too big ?
thanks

kickstart from cd
Howdy,
Was wondering if anyone on the list has successfully created a
kickstart cd. I get the thing burnt, looks good, I can browse all the
files, but when I actually boot from it I can't get it to admit the
ks.cfg exists. I *have* been successful with kickstart over http;
just can't seem to make it happen from the cd. Pointers appreciated,

Kickstart problem.
I am trying to use kickstart for automated builds from a DVD. Some of
the machines have DVD's drives and some have CDRom drives only. With the
CDRom only machines I would like to plug in an external DVD drive via
USB and use this to kickstart.
The DVD only machines work correctly with a isolinux.cfg as

kickstart install on SAN with multipath
Using CentOS 5.1, though with a few hours work I could update
to 5.2.. I can install to SAN with a single path no problem
but I'd like to be able to use dm-multipath. From the kickstart
docs it seems this is supported but there is no information
as to what the various options mean

unexpected 'reinitialize disk?' prompt form anaconda during kickstart with zerombr
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Anyone have any thoughts on why anaconda might be prompting me to
reinitialize the disk during the kickstart of a Centos6.4 install on
hyperV when
a) the kickstart file contains "zerombr" as referred to in the
installation guide[1]
b) installation proceeds with no prompt on KVM hypervisors and succeeds?
I have read the release notes[2]/tech

Questions on making a kickstart cfg
So I took the anaconda cfg, commented out the partition/disk pieces and
ran it off my repo server and it almost worked.
Little things like not including things I had done on network setup. No
first boot.... :)
So now I am reading up on building a kickstart cfg

Kickstart is my friend
I just had to change the install command to use ftp.
I had to uncomment all of the drive partitioning commands. At first
I was confused as to the partitioning failure, then figured out that
the partitioning commands were commented out. Most likely to prevent
an unwanted disk clearing.
Only things:
Did stop at the bootup to create a user id. Not a big deal in this
case, as I was logging

disable virtual terminals during kickstart installation
Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out where the inittab is for a pxeboot/kickstart
installation so that I can disable virtual terminals that allow for
interactive input such as CTRL+ALT+F2. I've looked in the /etc
directories for the pxeboot initrd as well as the stage2 and minstg2
files. Am I missing something grossly obvious here?

more kickstart - saving %pre decisions for %post
Hey again folks,
How can I save answers to questions in %pre, for use in %post?
I'm assuming (though have not yet tried) that variables won't live that long.
Could I save them off to /tmp in a file, and retrieve them?
e.g.
%pre
echo "VARNAME=$VARNAME" >> /tmp/varfile
%post
grep ^VARNAME= /tmp/varile
Or some such ...

linux kickstart for domU with a SXCE b90 dom0
Hi All:
Using the following line, I am trying to install Scientific Linux (a
RHEL derivative like CentOS), but the installer never sees my kickstart
file :

How to kickstart a guest with Centos 6.6 & Xen 4.4
Hello,
I posted a question over at xenproject.org but it was recommended that I
send out a message here for help.
My post there:
http://www.xenproject.org/help/questions-and-answers/vanilla-pv-centos-guest-via-kickstart-centos-6-6,-xen-4-4.html
The TL;DR is: Everything I've found to kickstart a new vanilla rhel/centos
guest points to specifying a kernel & and initrd- for RHEL/Centos 5.

Edit Access to TipsAndTricks/Kickstart
Hey,
I was thinking of added some stuff about setting the network settings from
the lilo prompt instead of waiting for a dhcp timeout when kickstarting a
system..
Thanks.

kickstart - how do I specify I20_block driver
Hi,
I have alot of kickstart and scripting going on as I provision lots of
machines, and every now and then I run into a pesky machine or three
that's still got that Adeptec zero-channel RAID card sitting on the
board. Normally I like to rip it our and throw something more robust
in, but if it's a cache machine or whatever, I leave it in.
It makes my kickstart file useless until I

Jumbo Frame performance or lackof?
After successfully getting higher MTU to work on my Realtek NICs, I
started testing the impact of higher MTU on file transfers using NFS
exported ramdisk to ramdisk.
The results were unexpected. The higher the MTU on the sending NIC,
the lower the file transfer speed. I tested by using time cp to copy a
1GB file (In case compression might affect the results, so I dd the

kickstart: gfx vs. txt mode
Hello,
I seem to recall from my redhat5/6/7 days that certain installation methods used for kickstarting only invoked text mode install. Now I read that graphical install is default in kickstart on el5/6. However, in my test environment (with older HP DL140G3) I only get text mode install up, even if I specify graphical in kickstart file, with both nfs and http install methods. There's no

CentOS-4.3 Kickstart 'Boot Failed'
Hello,
I'm trying to setup a CentOS-4.3 kickstart. When vmlinuz is loading, a
message appears "Boot failed: please change disks and press a key to
continue."
I am kickstarting via a USB flash drive. From the i386 ISO image #1, I am
using vmlinuz from the isolinux directory. I have grabbed the vmlinuz file
from a couple different mirrors just in case the one I had originally
