Ubuntu 12.10 Nginx Rails 3.2.13. Deploy in sub URI. Nothing happens!
Dear friends, I followed the guide on http://techoctave.com/c7/posts/16-how-to-host-a-rails-app-with-phusion-passenger-for-nginx and successfully deployed two apps on the same web server, some months ago. Then when I upgraded to Rails 2.3.13.rc1 everything seems to be OK, but when I visit my app with the browser all that I get is the Welcome page from Nginx. Here is my nginx.conf:

top 10/most popular lists
What''s the best way to handle views that show the top 10/most popular/ Recently updated/most commented type listing? Should I have a separate model that is populated with records from other models by a background job or should I need to use some sort of caching? Perhaps both? http caching a dynamic page
Is it possible to take advantage of http caching/proxy caching with dynamic pages? i.e. pages with section/part that can change over time but certain part of the page remain the same. I would rather not keep re-rendering the static part but insure the dynamic part are rendered with fresh data. I am using memcached mostly as an object store that I can minimize db hits but I still am rendering a

Tricky model situatione
I have two models Club and users. users are regular authenticated users and some of them might create a club. A club can also have members (essentially users) and there are attributes and models that apply to member but not to users. Here is what I have right now. Club => belongs_to :user User => has_many clubs (since a user can host multiple clubs). Now how do I fit this member model

COLUMNS and LINES environment variables
Hello openssh developers, Instead of just playing nethack, I've been building a client that would log in to nethack at alt.org and using a pipe to get the login data from pwsafe directly onto the server. All of this works brilliantly after playing with some stty magic (full script in [0]), however, this way the terminal size is burned into 80x24, which is way smaller than my graphical

sys.call() 's srcref doesn't match the language
Dear R-devel, I found this behavior disturbing, if `1 + f()` is called, `sys.call()` called inside of `f` will return a quoted `f()` with a "srcref" that prints "1 + f()". I don't know which one is good but I don't think they can be correct at the same time. Here's a reproducible example: f <- function(){ sc <- sys.call() print(sc) attr(sc,

Making headers self-contained for static analysis
Hello, I started using clangd to get better static analysis and code refactoring tooling with the R sources (using eglot-mode in Emacs, it just works once you've generated a `compile_commands.json` file with `bear make all`). I noticed that the static analyser can't understand several header files because these are not self-contained. So I went through all .h files and inserted the
