System freezes completely under kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5
Hello, is there a known problem with the new kernel for CentOS 5.3? Till today, my server works without any problems. But after updating to the new kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5 the system freezes completely with no more access by keyboard or over network. The last message in /var/log/messages is 'Aug 25 14:07:41 weidenwinde kernel: hdg: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21'. I have not

Vista performance (uggh)
Issue: Vista reads slowly from a samba server. This appears to pop up periodically here and elsewhere. My samba.conf file has: [homes] ... vfs objects = readahead As suggested elsewhere. Writes are approximately 17-18MB/s which is acceptable. Reads are in the 8MB/s range which is appalingly slow. Using linux smbclient and windows XP clients I can read at 25+MB/s. I've enabled vfs

ide/ext3 errors on two identical machines
Wondering if anyone here might better be able to diagnose an issue we're seeing, or point me to some guidelines for this sort of thing. There are two machines with identical hardware, both running Red Hat 7.3's stock SMP kernel (required due to third party software). Both have come down with the same symptoms after having run fine for a number of months. The initial errors were these:

Problem with internal traffic
Have 4 harddrives hde,hdg etc all of these drives are mounted in samba. When i copy file from one drive to another i notice that server sends the file to my computer and then back to itself (into the right place). The file will be copied but doing so it will eat half of my network bandwith. Is it possible to aviod this? Best Regards Patrick Betfjord

Re: Problems with ext3 fs
Hi, I have read this thread and want to say that I have expirienced the same problem. Once, when I was loged in, one of my filesystems ( root filesystem :( ) became read-only with the same symptoms. But results was more tragic. Almost in each directory avg. 10% of files had incorrect attributes, owner, links, etc. But filenames was correct. So, I was obliged to re-create root filesystem :(

acard 865 corruption issues
Hi Andre, ext3 folk, It would be really great if you could help me out here, I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue, a driver issue, an ext3 issue or some combination of them... I have a KT133A motherboard with an on-board promise controller, and an ACARD ATP865 in a PCI slot. I'm running 2.4.19-ac4 with the lvm 1.0.5 patches. The acard has two drives, hde and hdg attached to it, both

Rsync behaviour on harddisc crash
I was just pondering: Lets look at Server A with one extra harddisc hdb, where hdb1 is mounted at /mnt/folder. /mnt/folder is the folder which should be mirrored on Server B. So Server B rsyncs rsynch -a -delete server::folder /folder from Server A and gets all the new files and deletes all the files, which doesn't exist on Server A's /mnt/folder anymore. What would happen,

My server won't boot (grub looping - stage2)
Hi, This morning one of my servers (centos 4.5) refused to boot. The console shows a lopp message grub loading stage2... I've been able to boot from the install CD choosing the rescue option. I can chroot /mnt/sysimage with no problems and even started the services (network, mysql , httpd etc). How can I solve this? I've followed the manual (

Error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) when doing local rsync.
Hi, I cannot seem to find a good answer for what I am doing wrong; I am simply trying to rsync a directory from one large disk partition to another disk, both ext2, on the same physical system by using the command: rsync --archive -v /etc /mnt/hdf/ I systematically get the following errors: # rsync --archive -v /etc /mnt/hdf/ building file list ... done etc/ etc/mtab etc/ntp/drift

X-Post from Linux-RAID [Re: I just trashed my RAID5 array - recovery possible?]
Hi, originally I posted this to linux-raid@vger.kernel.org, but I guess there are chances that someone in here might comment on it as well. TIA. * Neil Brown <neilb@cse.unsw.edu.au> [2003-03-20 10:58]: > On Thursday March 20, lists@schlich.org wrote: > > > > And when I try to mount the array: > > --8<-- > > EXT3-fs error (device md(9,1)):

ext3 and highpoint RAID.
oops. I successfully installed RedHat 8.0 onto two ATA133 80gig drives running a mirrored RAID with the hpt37x (highpoint 372 onboard RaidController on the SOYO DRAGON motherboard.) I used ext3 as my filesystem type of choice but unfortunately the system shut down uncleanly and it now is coming up with the "press Y to force file system integrity check" at boot.... which it runs by

Adding more disks...
I need a VM with about 6-8 qcow2 disk images, but it seems to only allow 4 disks on the ide, like the real hardware. What lines do you need to add on to the xml definition file to get hde, hdf, hdg, etc?

Installing CentOS 2.1 on ICH7R controller
I'm trying to install CentOS 2.1 on SATA drive that lives on ICH7R controller. I have the controller setup in BIOS to "compatibility" mode, which means it should look just like regular IDE controller to the OS. In this mode, ide0 and ide1 are PATA controllers, and 4 SATA ports are mapped to ide2 and ide3. If I boot from the 2.1 installation CD, all the drives are detected
