totem: something wrong with gstreamer-plugins-ugly
When running totem to play a move (e.g. mpeg-1 file), it fails with the message: "A MPEG-1 System Stream demuxer plugin is required to play this stream, but not installed." After reading docs and trying various things I've reduced the source of the problem to the package gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.11-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm # rpm --rebuilddb # rpm -q libdvdread libdvdread-4.1.3-1.el5 #

I believe this could be interesting to a number of people on the list, not just me.

"General Error" in Firefox (CentOS 5.2) Video
This is a new instalation of CentOS 5.2 When I go to FireFox and try to watch a Video clip, some files transfer, and then I get the message "General Error" in the video window. I ASSUME some additional software needs to be downloaded, but what from where? When running on that Other OS, a message comes up giving you an opertunity to do the download. --

Media formats
Is CentOS held to the same philosophy as Fedora by NOT including apps to play formats such mp3 etc. If this is the case, how easy is it (looking for a how-to url) to add things such as gstream-bad to a Cent install. -- Best regards, Chris -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... video in the desktop
With Theora having reached a bitstream-frozen status, and a beta1 release imminent, what are people's thoughts on the Fedora site about video applications in the desktop release ? This is the first time a royalty-free video codec is in a releasable and supportable state. Also, the GStreamer+totem stack should be a shippable solution supporting Theora very soon now. I'd love for it to be

mp3 plugin for Rythmbox or Totem?
Can anybody please suggest a suitable plugin to enable playing of mp3 files with either Totem or Rythmbox. Both of these come as part of the CentOS 5 package, but strangely neither has the necessary plugin for mp3, which surely is a common enough format in the music world? Thanks, Andy

Viewing QT .mov files in Totem
CentOS-5.1 Is there anything special one must do to get the Totem shipped with CentOS-5 to display .mov files? When I try to view a file I get an error box with the message: Totem could not play 'file:///tmp/073_complex_forms_part_1.mov'. Could not decode stream." # rpm -qi totem Name : totem Relocations: (not relocatable) Version :

Totem needs plug-ins
Just tried to play a movie/DVD and Totem (what automatically popped up when I inserted the DVD) said it needed plug-ins... it didn't say which plug-ins. The website listed in the help page no longer exists. I have four of the gstreamer packages and libdvdcss installed, but I guess there's something more needed. Anyone know? tia for the tips. -- War is a failure of the imagination.

totem fails to open .wmv file
Hey All, Totem has stopped playing .wmv files recently. I don't know exactly when this happened, but I know I've played .wmv files not too very long ago. I've got 372 .wmv files all of which I've played at one time. When I try to launch any one of the .wmv files from file manager totem pops up but the controls are not functional. If I start totem from a terminal there is no

make swfdec a gstreamer backend?
Hi, I don't know much about gstreamer internals so I'm not sure.. The idea just appeared in my mind. Is it possible to make swfdec a gstreamer plugin? Totem then can play swf files. Totem already has a plugin for Epiphany so we don't have to write another plugin for epiphany. I don't know how gstreamer handle interative input though. -- Duy

Swfdec and Ffmpeg only
Hi, I'm the founder and still very active developer of Puppy Linux, and a variant named Quirky. Puppy is a cut-down distro, typically 100MB live-CD. We have always used the Adobe Flash player, though I have stayed with the Flash 9 player (9.0.48.0) due to its smaller size. Puppy also has ffmpeg, xine-lib and gxine. Recently I have been experimenting with Swfdec and Swfdec-mozilla. I started

MP4/H.264 codec for Firefox?
Hello, I am trying to get MP4/H.264 playback in Firefox to work on my CentOS laptop (for vimeo). I installed the gstreamer plugins as described here: https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/MultimediaOnCentOS7 (No, I did not install Flash, VLC and all the other stuff. I only want HTML5 MP4 playback..) I enabled the nux repos. I did install all available gstreamer plugins, i.e. -good -bad

some thoughts about both ffmpeg and gnome
hello i tried swfdec a year ago and didn't find it suitable. this is why i now first tried gnash. however, it wants alot of uncommon dependencies and dumped alot of error messages. this is why i tried taking a second look at swfdec. im surprised to find that all of my most favourite games work. only that i have to click on the somewhat blurry "play" image is quite boring. however,

where did all the nonfree rpms go? Nvidia? xine-lib-mp3?
I installed Centos on some machines that need long term support. I'm running up against some simple user convenience issues. How to play MP3? I've been really puzzled today that the addon rpm sites like livna, rpmforge, rpmfusion, epel, don't seem to have something like amarok-mp3 or xine-lib-mp3. What am I missing? It can be done in Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora Linux. In the
