Re: Disk partitions and LVM limits - SUMMARY
Thank you all for the help. I'm writing this summary message because of people requests. I haven't tried all of this. I just collected it and organized it. You've got a big storage. Now what? The short answer is: "Just connect it. It should work." I'll play safe by saying that the following applies to <10TB storage. Some people reported file systems of 80TB.

How to force iscsi to see the new LUN size
Hi, I increased the size of one of the LUNs and on CentOS 5.4 if I restart iscsi (`service iscsi restart`) I'll see the the new size but this will disconnect all other LUNs. I'm hoping that there is isciadm or some other command that will force iscsi to rediscover the LUNs but I can't seem to be able to come up with one. Resize2fs says that there is nothing to be done. I'm

[SUMMARY] incorrect password in Windows 98
Hi all, Sorry for the delayed summary. Much thanks to the following people for taking the time to respond: Jonh P. Nelson and Andreas Grupp. The solution of the problem was very simple. Nelson wrote: Windows NT with SP 3 or later and Windows 98 do not allow unencrypted passwords without a registry patch. Apply the patch (from the Samba docs directory): Win98_PlainPassword.reg to each Win98

Kernel panic due to vg00 not found while not using LVM at all
Hi, I have a system running CentOS4.8. Last month I installed the latest updates including kernel 2.6.9-89.0.23 and rebooted the system. It has been running for almost a month. Last night I updated the system again which updated only a few packages: openssl, tzdata, curl,vixie-cron and logrotate. No new kernel or anything out of ordinary. The reboot after the update stopped with kernel

Centos 5.1 ext3 filesystem limit
Centos 5.1 documentation states that the supported ext3 filesystem limit is 16TB, yet I have a 9.5TB partition that is claimed to be too large: mke2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006) mke2fs: Filesystem too large. No more than 2**31-1 blocks (8TB using a blocksize of 4k) are currently supported. Am I missing something? > uname -a Linux fileserver.sharcnet.ca 2.6.18-53.1.6.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan

Bash scripting - Remotely ran commands break while loop
I have two CentOS5 systems server1 and server2. There is user peter on server1 who can ssh to server2 using public ssh keys and no password is needed. What I noticed is that running remote ssh commands in bash script breaks while loops. ====== #!/bin/sh for i in server2 server2; do echo "--> Start" ssh peter@$i ls echo "--> END" done echo " server2

Shearing file systems on the network
I have 4 systems and each one of them has a partition I'd like to be remotely accessible on the other 3 systems. In other words System1 has Partition1. Systems 2,3,4 should be able to remotely mount Partition1 from System1. Also System2 has Partition2. Then systems 1,3,4 should be able to remotely mount Partition2 from System2 and so on. I tried NFS and it works but only in the ideal

Reset driver settings on a printer
Hi, how to reset driver settings on printer so users will be asked to install the printer driver? After uploading a printer driver I use "setdriver" command to specify which driver should be downloaded when install the coresponded printer. Is there any way to unset that? Sometimes I'd like to manualy install the driver from a CD instead of automaticaly download it from the print

enumprinters
The "printer drivers download" feature of SAMBA-2.2 is great. Thanks to the SAMBA team. I'm using SAMBA-2.2.0 and everything works fine except one command: $ ./rpcclient sdprint -U root -c 'enumprinters' Enter Password: rpc_api_pipe: cmd 26 on pipe 703e failed to return data. result was NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL $ I can't say that rpcclient log file is useful for me but

Apple Mail cannot connect (1.0 beta3)
I'm testing 1.0 beta3 on our mail server, and finding that Apple Mail seems unable to connect to it. I'm running the 1.0b3 on port 997 so we can test it in parallel to 0.91 to compare performance (so far, it's hella faster). I've ensured that the users testing are _not_ connecting in any way to the 0.91 version running on port 993. From the OS X client side (10.4.5 + latest

alternate ports?
I'm trying to set up 1.0 beta 2 on one of our systems, and would like to run it on alternate ports from the standard IMAP and IMAP/SSL ports so that we can test it out a couple users at a time. How does one tell dovecot to listen on alternate ports? I can't find anything in the example config file... Thanks, Gregory -- Gregory K. Ruiz-Ade Sr. Systems Administrator Computer Science

1.0 beta3 not preserving X-Keyword header?
We've been putting 1.0 Beta 3 through the paces on our test system, and one of our users pointed out to me that Thunderbird's "labels" behave strangely on the new server. In fact, there used to be a header added to the message via IMAP when Thunderbird placed a label on a message, but as of the switch from 0.99.11 to 1.0beta3, this label header is no longer placed in the

what is difference between "slow initialize" and "patrol read" on RAID?
We have DELL server with MD1000 Disk array in it. O.S. is CENTOS 5.5. Recently every time MD1000 "patrol read" start I will get "media error" messages on /var/log/message file. I use MD1000 "slow initialize" to initialize "bad disk" and NO error. After "slow initialize" finish, I manually "startup patrol read". I continue get

problem adding second MD1000 enclosure to LSI 9200-16e
I have 15x SAS drives in a Dell MD1000 enclosure, attached to an LSI 9200-16e. This has been working well. The system is boothing off of internal drives, on a Dell SAS 6ir. I just tried to add a second storage enclosure, with 15 more SAS drives, and I got a lockup during Loading Kernel. I got the same results, whether I daisy chained the enclosures, or plugged them both directly into the LSI

extremely slow delete/move operations?
I've been working to migrate several hundered users on to our new mail servers, which run dovecot 0.99.11 (RHEL4). The problem I'm seeing is that deleting or moving a message seems to take a very long time. It's not uncommon for Thundirbird (1.0.7) to have delays of 5-10 seconds to delete a single message from my Inbox (<500k) and place it in my Trash folder (~100MB right
