FIXED: Transaction is a reserved word, and it cannot be used even
though I put it into its own module. So my guess is
Transactions::Transaction still somehow got resolved to the Rails
internal Transaction class.
Renamed the Transaction (and its subclasses) to Transact and it works fine now.
Thanks!

Activerecord::JDBCError: Invalid column number
Hi,
I''m rather new to Ruby and RoR, so I do not really know whether this ist
the right forum to place my question.
For my first ''project'' I planned to create a simple online-viewer, which
grabs data from an existing database and make them visible in a
structured form via browsers. So I thought that could be the right
beginner-project, because I have only read datasets

Rails think db column is integer when it is a float
Hi,
I came across the strangest issue I have no idea how it happened. In
my development environment, I created a new migration and model that
uses a couple of decimal column types (among others). Everything
works great with sqlite and the development environment, business as
usual. However, I deployed to production and for some completely
unknown reason, this particular table (only this one)

How to remove column without downtime with ActiveRecord > 3.0?
Removing columns from tables while running application with ActiveRecord
causes errors, because ActiveRecord caches column names.
Workaround for ActiveRecord up to 3.0.9 was to override #columns method in
the model and filter out deprecated column names before migration
(basically - hide these columns from AR). This worked because all column
name related methods were based on #columns call

Setting up a rails app in a relative path (using Apache and Passenger)
Hi,
This seems like it should be a common problem, but I haven''t been able to
google for the right terms, evidently...
I''m trying to set up my rails app, not to the base domain name, but to a
relative path. That is, the server already hosts an app at the domain, and
I want to add a rails app.
So, mydomain.com already exists and is a PHP app. I want

Rails 3 test database issues
I am having a problem using the test database in Rails 3. It
apparently has kept track of aspects of the database that I deleted
completely from my migrations at some point. I don''t always use the
''down'' part of a migration and sometimes just recreate the whole
database. I did rake db:migrate:reset and rake db:test:prepare, but
when I run my test it is trying to access

How to save the user_id in a separate column when using ActiveRecord::SessionStore?
Hi!
I''m converting my Rails 3.1 app from cookie sessions to database
sessions.
I''ve added an extra column on the sessions table to save the user_id.
I read the documentation in
http://apidock.com/rails/v3.1.0/ActiveRecord/SessionStore and googled
but can''t seem to find a way to set the session''s user_id that works.
Can someone help?
Thanks

ActiveRecord#touch behaviour in Rails 3
In Rails 2.x, calling touch on an ActiveRecord model would update the
''lock_version'' on the model, if it were present.
It would produce something like this in SQL:
UPDATE `foo` SET `updated_at` = ''2010-07-23 10:44:19'', `lock_version''
= 2 WHERE ''lock_version'' = 1
This would ensure that your optimistic locking policy will be followed

rails 3 meta_search usage
I am in the process of upgrading my app from Rails2 to Rails3.
My Rails2 app uses searchlogic heavily.
After googling i''ve come to know that searchlogic is not compatible
with Rails3 and need to use meta_search instead.
But i havent quite understood the usage of meta_search vis-a-vis
searchlogic.

Rails 3.1 Engines: Full vs. Mountable
Hi all,
I was hoping someone could please clarify the differences between a
full engine and a mountable one.
I have noticed the following:
** Full Engine **
- With a full engine, the parent application inherits the routes from
the engine. It is not necessary to specify anything in parent_app/
config/routes.rb. Specifying the gem in Gemfile is enough. The
engine routes are specified as:

Getting model column names
Hello,
I am writing a RoR application that connects to a couchDB database using
couchrest_model.
The definition of my model is the following one:

property :first_name, String
property :last_name, String

I would like to be able to get the list of the model columns, e.g., the
