oembed_provider gem now available
Hi everyone,
Version 0.1 of the oembed_provider gem is out.
oembed_provider is a Rails engine to answer oEmbed requests for
application media asset models. In other words, this gem allows your
application, after configuring the gem and the relevant models, to act
as an oEmbed Provider by providing a controller that returns JSON or
XML for a given oEmbed consumer request for the specified media

Arity?
Hello,
First off, nice improvements hemant! Thanks for all the hard work. I
just whipped up a new worker for a scheduled job that sends digest
emails. Very smooth.
However, moving some of my old backgroundrb into new backgroundrb
isn''t going quite as smoothly. I have a import worker that takes a
number of parameters and then is started dynamically. Here''s the a

Faking it... import local files into attachment_fu
Hello,
I''m working on an import utility that will match the functionality of
uploading an object of a model that uses attachment_fu for
thumbnailing, etc.
Rather than uploading the file via a form, I want to populate the
params[:image][:uploaded_data] with data from a file already on the
server''s file system.
So far, I''ve been able to copy to an instance of Tempfile

Rails 3 testing help with TinyMCE gem and plugin
Hiya,
I''ve taken over maintenance of the tiny_mce gem
(https://github.com/kete/tiny_mce/) and am preparing a release that
will have the latest TinyMCE and take advantage of some TinyMCE jQuery
integration. I''m in the process of getting things working again with
Rails 2.3.x (jQuery integration stuff broke things) and I could use
hand with testing with Rails 3.x.
I don''t

Local assistance in Wellington/NZ ?
Anyone out there in NZ, perhaps in Wellington?
I''ve been doing procedural perl/PHP for so long that I''d appreciate some
assistance with grokking Ruby :-) and the Rails framework.
If you''re local to Wellington I''d be more than happy to pin you down
over a liquid refreshment of some sort, as it were ... :-)
I''ve just sort-of promised a friend to build

Delete a busy worker
I thought I could delete a busy worker by calling MiddleMan.delete_worker,
but doesn''t seem to end. I believe this was possible in 0.2, is it not in
1.0?
thanks,

Samba serving files with *very* long access times
I access files on our Cray T3E from my Windows 2000 PC via a Samba share.
One of the volumes on the T3E is managed by Cray's Data Migration facility
(DMF). The majority of the DMF files are stored off-line and restored to
disk as necessary. This operation typically takes 3-5 minutes.
Normally when a Windows 2000 application tries to read data from one of the
off-line files--even if it's

Permissions causing full backups?
I am using rsync/rsnapshot on Windows XP (via cygwin) to backup to a mapped
share (/u) on a Linux server. I’m hoping to get this to work so that I
don’t have to open an XP share to the network for Linux “pull” backups.

My current setup doesn’t seem to give me incremental backups. See the “du”
output…

Strip & Sanitize BEFORE saving data
So I''ve googled my brains out, and I see a lot of talk about
TextHelper for views, but next to no discussion about cleaning text
_before_ it is saved.
I figured this had to be asked 4 zillion times, but I''m not finding
anything concrete/obvious.
Using h is fine as a safety catch, but that alone is not acceptable
to me as the means of diffusing the impact of HTML or JS
