Caching::Sweeper Access to Controller
Hello,
I''m running Mongrel 0.3.13.3, cluster 0.2.0, and Rails 1.1.6 and I
have a problem with a sweeper not having access to the controller
instance.
NoMethodError (undefined method `session'' for nil:NilClass):

NoMethodError in User sessionsController#new
I''m setting up authentication with Authlogic and I get this error.
I''ve done some searching but with no success. I tried setting the
current_user method in Application_controller to protected and not
private, on the recommendation in Stack Overflow.

expiring cache fragments using script/runner
I''ve just set up caching on my site and want to expire some of fragments on
an hourly basis.
I was going to use cron and script/runner to do this.
For other fragments that I am expiring, I am using expire_fragment inside a
sweeper class, something like:
class QuestionSweeper < ActionController::Caching::Sweeper
observe Question

cache_sweeper causes undefined method error
I created a sweeper ItemSweeper and saved it in
app/models/item_sweeper.rb. Then I put this in my item_controller.rb:
cache_sweeper :item_sweeper, :only => [:create, :destroy, :update]
But now when I call the view action, I get this error:
ActionView::TemplateError (undefined method `title'' for nil:NilClass) on
line #5 of app/views/item/view.rhtml:

Authlogic::How to access current user from within a cache sweeper?
So I''m trying to follow along in Chad Fowler''s Rails Recipes (recipe
#59, Keeping track of who did what) and I simply want to access the
current user from within my cache sweeper. Normally you just
reference @current_user but that doesn''t seem to be the case here.
In Chad''s example, he calls controller.session[:user]. What''s the
Authlogic equivalent?

Cache sweeping and render_component (my mistake or Rails bug?)
Hi
I''m working on a program which relies on heavy cache sweeper usage.
I''ve just bumped onto an odd problem. When using render_component
method in layouts or templates with cache sweeping turned on, Rails
throws an exception with the following message:
NoMethodError in TestController#index
You have a nil object when you didn''t expect it!

A method accessible from all controllers and views ? How ?
Hi,
I''ve got this method :
def is_admin?
@current_user && @current_user.admin == 1
end
I want to be able to call this method from all my controllers and all my
views.
If I put this method in application_controller I can call it from all my
controllers but none of my views.
If I put this method in application_helper I can call it from all my
views but none of my controllers.

Hi
I''m new to Rails (and Ruby) and I can''t get it to work properly.
Every time I want to do something with my database-connection (e.g.
use scaffold) I get this, or something similiar (from development.log):

Testing misc methods in ApplicationController
I''m already successfully testing before_filters in application_controller
courtesy of this blog post:
http://www.movesonrails.com/articles/2008/01/23/spec-ing-your-application-controller
However, i can;''t work out how to test the sort of method that is added to
application_controller so that all controllers can use it. It must be
something simple that i''m doing

PostgreSQL unit test failure
PostgreSQL 8.1, Win32, Ruby 1.8.2 for Win32 native.
Rails 1.0 gems.
Starting on line 784 of the ''base_test.rb'' file for ActiveRecord
1.13.2 is "test_default"
When I run the unit tests for ActiveRecord against Postgres,
everything passes except for this test. It looks like modified_time
returns a default of ''nil'', rather than Time.now, as it should.

not sure, but the ''call'' appears to be on the block.call when the

undefined method `protocol' for nil:NilClass
Hi! This may have been answered somewhere before, but my searches turned
up nothing.
I am developing a Rails app that generally works, but just generated a
new controller ("list" controller), did not add anything, and when I go to
http://localhost:3000/list/
I receive an error. It appears that the page was properly generated, but

Plugin: can't call before_filter in ApplicationController
Hi all
I want to outsource an extension for ApplicationController, that I had
in application.rb so far, into a plugin.
I have created this plugin, and in init.rb I load
require File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/lib/application_controller''
In lib/application_controller.rb I have the following code:
class ApplicationController
before_filter :prepare_user
...
end
This worked
