Accessing the router from a helper
I find manually accessing the router to be quite ugly below. Is there a more direct way to access it? module ApplicationHelper def menu_item text, url = nil routes = ActionController::Routing::Routes url = if url if url.is_a? String url else routes.generate url end else routes.generate :controller

The thunderstone crawler (http://search.thunderstone.com/texis/ websearch/about.html) sends the folliowing HTTP accept header when requesting pages Accept: text/*, application/javascript, application/x-javascript This results in a "Missing template" exception text/* is valid. How do I tell my rails app to treat this as rhtml by default instead of returning a 500? Missing template

Rails is slow to load
Hi, I was just wondering if this was normal or not. I was running ruby 1.8.7 with rails 3 - rc. (Currently trying 1.9.2- rc2 but the same problem) It takes rails a while to load. (a while as in 10-15 seconds) It will take a while before I can use the console , or before running a test or starting up the server. This doesn''t seem normal to me when I watch some screencasts. If this is

Rails 4: Should a HEAD request not be handled like a GET for CSRF protection?
I am running a Rails 4 app in semi-production and I constantly get exceptions from crawler bots that use a HEAD HTTP method, which causes the CSRF protection to kick in. Shouldn''t HEAD requests normally be handled like GET requests? I am not sure if I''m just being stupid or that hit is a bug somewhere. Rails 3 - Loading a Subnav with Ajax… Which controller owns a subnav?
Once my Rails 3 app is loaded, a user can click an item which needs to then load a dynamic subnav. My thinking is (since it needs to be dynamic) is onClick to make a jQuery AJAX call to the server and then to inject the HTML response into a DIV on the page... What I''d like your advice on is how/where the subnav logic should live in the rails app, as I don''t have a navigation

[rspec-rails] Is it bad form to use spec/requests/*_spec.rb for integration tests?
So I wanted to cook up a quick integration test for something, and I''m using rspec. I personally just don''t like Cucumber - just a personal preference, not a slam to the test framework at all - and wanted to stick to just pure rspec. So I dumped a quick spec file in spec/ reqests and ran it, and of course everything works. But is this considered bad form, or a less-than-good
