histogramming dates
I'd like to make a plot showing frequency of an event. The data
is in a data from that includes Year, Month and Day (of month)
fields, so I created a Date with ISOdate(Year, Month, Day,
tz=''). I can plot frequencies for the year 2002 with
> thisyear <- Date[Year==2002]
> hist( thisyear, xaxt='n' )
> axis.POSIXct( 1, at=seq(min(thisyear), max(thisyear),

Mailing labels
Any easy way to print on mailing labels that have 3 columns? I need
these to fit in my laser printer. I have no trouble with single column
labels, but I don''t know how to make a partial display 3 times across
a page with different records.
Thanks

Missing template pages/layout only occasionally
I have my app email me errors when they occur. I get this about 2-3
times a week with thousands of hits a day to the site. pages/show is a
.html.erb file that renders the partial
_strategicrelationshipacademy.html.erb essentially. Or whatever partial
it calls for. I get this on many different ''pages''. Obviously the
partial exists if it renders it fine most of the time. What

Converting ddf/dct/sas data definition file to R
Dear all,
I was wondering whether anyone knows about a program which converts
(part of) a data definition file (such as a .dct file for stata, or
.sas file for sas) into an R-script.
Here is an example with a .sas file:

Creating unique code
Hi Hannah,
Yes, that does give me more insight. The polygyny only doesn't matter, for
even if there was polyandry it could be coded in the same way. If I
understand this correctly you have one variable (SPRULE) that must contain
information about the household of the individual and the identities of his
(or her) relationship partner(s). The household number can accommodate up

query on converting survey data from one structure to another
Dear R users,
I am trying to convert a dataset from one format to several rectangular
datasets. A consultant helped design the data entry program for our survey
using Delphi/Pascal and for each household the information is stored in a
file called "EA-HM-HH.TXT" where EA is the enumeration area number, HM is
the homestead number and HH is the household number. Within this file the

Function for Estimating Fractional Multinomial Logit Model?
I need to estimate a model that predicts the proportional split of
travel among the vehicles of a household based on vehicle
characteristics such as age, fuel economy, and travel cost per mile. The
model estimation dataset has a record for each household vehicle with
information about the vehicle, the household, and the proportion of the
total household vehicle travel using that vehicle. I have

analysis of data with observation weights
Dear R-users,
Recently I had to analyze a dataset from household survey. The sample design
ensured, that each household in the population has the same probability of being
sampled. However the data were gathered from only one adult individual in each
household, who was randomly choosen by an interviewer (via "Kish grid"). To
equalize the probabilities for each INDIVIDUAL a casewise

Creating unique code
Hello,
I need some help in creating a new variable. I need to create a 'couple identifier', which gives a unique code for every couple/triple/... in a household. So, I can identify couples. To do this, I should use 4 variables:

* PERNUM = a unique numeric code for each person
* SPLOC = the numeric code of the spouse in the

[non-statistics question]methodological problem
Good afternoon!
As mentioned in the subject, my question regards more the methodological part that accompanies survey design and the statistical part that is involved.
So, I have the following data:

random effects using lmer

I am trying to run a logistic regression to look at the risk of malaria
infection in individuals. I want to account for intra household correlation
and so want to include a household level random effect. I have been using

are completely different to those I get using STATA.
Can I just check that this is the correct
