params[hash] and link_to.... easy question... but I am stupid :)
routes.rb

"admin", :action => "edit_position"
In a view I have:
<%= link_to "#{@draw.positions[0].team}", { :controller
=> :admin, :action => :edit_position,
:id

Passenger, switching from development to production
It appears my http setup is working but I am getting an error when I try
to use a web browser to connect.
All I have done so far is to change the setting from what was working in
httpd.conf and move it to ssl.conf (adding some ssl things) and I am
using the same directory/set of files that was working for development.
The error...

postgresql sequence and migrations
I have a specific need to ''fixate'' my ''roles'' table sequence when
migrating.
at migration #4, I have 28 records in my roles tables and I can manually
reset the roles_id_seq but it stands to reason that since I am doing
everything else in the migration, I might as well reset the sequence
there too.
so I tried this in my migration file...

I have an object that I would like to remove from params hash thinking
that may solve a problem (it might not).
params[:placement][:clwholename]
how can I just remove it from the params hash?

Validations continued
I simply can''t figure this out. I have been reading and re-reading Agile
book and wiki.rubyonrails.org - all sorts of validation methods and
still, it doesn''t work.

functional testing joins table problem
I have models/controllers
Class Facility

Class Service

Class FacilitiesServices

so in my test/functional/facilities_controller_test.rb, I have

Problem getting the most recent has_many associated object
I can''t get my view to display the most recent parameters from an
associated object in a view... here is a birds-eye of my app:
I have two models, Ferms and Kinetics. Ferm has_many :kinetics,
Kinetic belongs_to :ferm. Kinetic has the fields ferm_id, brix and
temp.
In my ferms/index view I have a table listing the attributes of each
ferm instance. I would like to display the most recent

boolean select problem
I want to use select form elements to choose between boolean options. How
can I have it default to true and still display the persisted value (either
true or false) when editing an existing object? I guess booleans default to
false by default so its not obvious how to recognize when it''s a real
''false'' that the user set or default false because the value was null.

Find last
This seems rather ugly. I am thinking that this needs to be in the model

DRY methodology
because I am a grasshopper...
Now that I can sort my ''list''...is there a logical way of not repeating
myself to having essentially the same list view with multiple sorts?
i.e.

multi-page printing moving on
I have some nice forms done using stylesheets. I currently have them
displaying on screen and the user could simply just print.
This works when there is only one form (facility) to be viewed/printed.
I have created the looping code necessary to print for all facilities
but that doesn''t work for me because each page uses stylesheets with
<div> that do absolute positioning and thus

link_to tool tips
I think they are called tool tips...
I have view code that looks like this...
<%= link_to ''I'', :action => ''edit_innoculations'', :id => personnel %>
Is there an option (I don''t see it in api) to have tool tips for a
link_to ?

Stack Level Too Deep Error (can't seem to figure it out)
Hi all,
I am running into a weird issue where my application is giving me a
stack level too deep error. I can''t seem to find where my code is
throwing this error. On the machine I developed this code on, this
error does not show up when I run rails s but when I move the code to
another system to run it this error shows up.
The system that this code runs fine on is a mac os x machine

Unable to add computer to domain
I have an OpenLDAP backend, Samba knows how to talk to it, my Samba users
are stored in LDAP and file shares work fine authenticating to the LDAP

I tried executing smbldap-useradd -w server02 on the command-line and got
the following error:

text_field_with_auto_complete (newbie question)
I have the text_field_with_auto_complete woking on my user DB using
last_name. so looking for ''ivanoff'' works great, but I can''t find
''john''. Plus I like to have ''last_name, first_name'' show up in the
dropdown.
what I can''t figure out is how to concat first_name and last_name to
make a name and use that to look it.

index columns in postgres
I am in a holding pattern while client decides upon changes and so I am
working some things out internally so it seems to me that indexing
frequently searched table fields might be useful.
I am using postgres and via postgres, I have added an index to one of my
tables whose index is the same name as the column name. The ''find''
screen I am using this to judge populates a number
