Mongrel & Mint (PHP related)
Hi, Does anyone have the Mint stats package setup with their Rails
application. I have uploaded Mint to the public folder, but when I try
and request domain.com/mint/index.php the page is served as a download
instead of being processed by mod_php. Im guessing this isn''t really a
Mongrel problem but what I actually need to do is prevent Apache
proxying certain requests to Mongrel.

Mongrel+Mint
Hi,
I''m attempting to migrate an app from Apache+FCGI to Apache+Mongrel. I''m using Apache 2.0 with the latest Mongrel release. I''m having an issue with the Mint stats package and Mongrel not picking up the following url: /mint/?js
Basically inside the /mint folder there is an index.php, so the url /mint/?js should really be going to /mint/index.php?js
When I had my

Samba Samba and UFW
Louis,
Did not mean to confuse. Before I upgraded to Mint 19.1 I could go to
the network, click on windows network, click on workgroup, then office
and the windows pc (office) would mount. No problems. THe folders on the
windows machine would be accessed. Now in Mint 19.1 I get the error
"Unable to mount location....". We traced this behavior to the UFW
firewall blocking the

New to Linux and Wine, need to know a few things
Hello, I hadn't installed Linux in quite a while and recently I installed Linux Mint 12 in a VMware VM and I really like it, especially the font rendering which is much closer to Mac OS X and far from the terrible font smoothing on Windows.
In fact I like it so much that I'm contemplating the idea of installing as my primary OS and using Wine for some Windows apps, only switching to

Samba and UFW
Rowland,
The computer name 'martin-RB042AV-ABA-a1410y' was set by Linux Mint when it
was installed. I'm not sure I can change it. I check it on the Mint forum.
I'll turn off the smb... feature and see what happens. Yes the ports listed
below are open and set to pass through the firewall. Should I unset the
netbios name". Going to try the modification to the ufw rules file as

Wine 1.4 removes gnome-common & mate-common (link)
Hello all.
Recently upgraded to Mint 13 MATE and have been following this forum post:http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=102684&p=585069&hilit=wine+mint+13+mate#p585069
Installing wine 1.4 appears to remove mate-common and gnome-common and a few other packages, playonlinux also removes the same. I don't know what damage this does but vincent on the Mint forums

Tripp-Lite SMART1500LCD: powers off with /etc/killpower...then powers back on...
Hi Everyone,
I recently bought a Tripp-Lite SMART1500LCD for my Linux Mint 19.3 machine,
connected via a USB cable. I installed Nut 2.7.4 from the Mint package
repository via sudo apt update && sudo apt install nut. Everything works
great: NUT issues low battery warning when it reaches the set low
battery point and then issues shutdown commands...computer shuts
down..then the UPS shuts

Dovecot not responding to external clients
Hi all
I have Dovecot on my Linux-Mint workstation, running IMAP for the
Thunderbird client thereon, but previously also for my phone and laptop
clients as well. Since upgrading to Linux-Mint 19, however, although the
Thunderbird client on the workstation works just fine, the other clients
can't connect. I've disabled the firewall, and nmap shows the ports
open, so it seems like some

My Ruby on Rails procedures and projects
Check out the Ruby on Rails page on my web site at:

I''ve included my procedure for installing Ruby on Rails in Linux Mint
Debian Edition. That''s right, I''m no longer dependent on Ubuntu or
Ubuntu-based Linux distros for developing Ruby on Rails applications.

To install a new R package, is it better to use Linux Mint's pacakge
manager (e.g. synaptic, apt-get, or similar), or to install it within R
with install.packages("some_new_package")?
I've done both over

World of Warcraft on Linux Mint or Ubuntu, a doubt
Hi everyone
I used to have Linux Mint 8 Helena and World of Warcraft patch 3.2.x, like less than a year ago
I play on private servers (just because there's no way of payment for blizzard servers from Peru), and i had a bad experience with wine 1.0 (or 1.1.33, i can't remember - the thing is that wine 1.2 wasn't released)
My FPS were like 19-20 when in windows it goes at 60-65, in

samba behavior change with version upgrade
I have two linux mint systems on my network and use samba to share data
between them. I am in the process of upgrading one of them from linux
mint maya to linux mint sylvia, which also upgrades smbd from 3.6.25 to
4.3.11-Ubuntu and encountering behavior differences. I suspect I need to
tweak my newer smb.conf file to correct this problem.
The system I am in process of upgrading offers a

Samba and UFW
Rowland,
I found the reason for the "wrong argument" error. The windows firewall was
set to block remote connections. Fixed that now I'm able to connect to the
network. Now I'm back to the original problem. That is I cannot connect to
the windows network with ufw enabled. Error "Cannot mount location - file or
directory does not exist". If I press ok the error
