Generating unique random tokens for ActiveRecord objects
I have an ActiveRecord subclass that needs to generate a random (hard
to guess) token for each record in its corresponding table. Currently
I''m doing something like this:
def before_create
self[''token''] = random_value
while self.class.find_by_token(self[''token''])
self[''token''] = random_value

Question regarding reading arrayvision files in limma
Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to read some Arrayvision files( 2 channel cDNA) and
am having some
problem. My code is :
setwd('C:/work/data/limma/ndd1');
files <- c('ndd1_1.txt','ndd1_2.txt','ndd1_3.txt');
RG=read.maimages(files,"arrayvision",sep="\t");
#Normalisation
MA=normalizeWithinArrays(RG);
#plotPrintTipLoess(MA);

[LLVMdev] Status of LLVM's atomic intrinsics
Having implemented a GC for HLVM, I am now turning my attention to
implementing a GC that supports parallelism. To do this, I would like to use
atomic instructions as well as mutexes. What is the status of LLVM's atomic
instrinsics (e.g. CAS)? Is anyone using them in real projects?
I realised that an obvious test would be to compile some simple example
programs with llvm-g++ instead of

Route Information
Is there a method to return a hash of the route configuration based on
a path?
For example:
magic_method(''/my_controller/my_action/my_id'')
=>
{:controller => ''my_controller'', :action => ''my_action'', :id =>
''my_id''}
Thanks!
Tom

Write pure sine to *.ogg directly?
Hello,
I am author of a Morse code training software written
in Perl at http://starling.ws/morse
Currently I output to *.wav and, if on Unix, convert to
*.ogg. And that's okay for a trainer.
But I have desire to upgrade the project to a real-time
communication tool...or at least a Morse code audio
mail routine. And I should like to avoid *.wav.
I'd like some means of writing a pure

[PATCH] mboot using module path
Hi,
We are using pxelinux at my company to test our product. And there are
limitations
that we have hit in the past w.r.t. the max length of a path, or the
max length of a module
name (in mboot.c / mboot.c32). We've used workarounds in the past, and
reorganized the
directory structure, but we face that problem again. Out of the 128 /
FILENAME_MAX chars
that can be used, 110 - 120 go to the

Newbie question on Scheduling
I''ve scheduled cron jobs etc before, but I''m curious as to how to layout a
worker properly. Here''s a basic example of what one of my workers looks
like:
class FooWorker < BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker
set_worker_name :foo_worker
def create(args = nil)
logger.info("Starting test: #{Time.now.strftime("%T")}")
run_test

making backgroundrb cron
Hello,
i need to have some jobs scheduled in the background and executed at
specific times. I wanted to make a worker who does that - and it works a
little bit - but i had an enlightment... why not make bgdrb itself play that
role? i mean, the MiddleMan has already everything needed! a timer thread,
currently used only for deleting old workers and the workers itself. since

Unintended thread forked in autostart

two threads seem to be forked.
My simple application code is...

class FooWorker < BackgrounDRb:Rails
repeat_every 2.minutes
first_run Time.now

SerializationTypeMismatch in Production Mode
In production mode, I keep getting this error the 2nd time it loads a

supposed to be a Array, but was a NilClass):

In development, it works fine. In fact, if I set to false

Fast quality reduction transcoding
Hi,
After a quick read of the Theora spec, I became curious about the
possibility of fast quality reduction of Theora videos. The idea is to
decode through the Huffman and reverse prediction steps, and then to
truncate the coefficients and reencode. My questions are:
* Is this a reasonable way to reduce the quality and bitrate of a
stream? Will it be comparable in quality to a complete

ActiveRecord associations: design question
Hi guys,
In my Rails app, I have three models: A, B and C, with the following
relationships:
- B hasMany C
- C belongsTo B
I would like A to "has_one" instance of B+C. By that I mean A needs to
be linked to a specific instance of B AND a specific instance of C.
My first guess would be to create a fourth object, say B_plus_C that
would:
- belongs to B
- belongs to C
- belongs to A

background process
Hi all
I am working on a heavy engineering project. And the requirement is that
I needto do a lot of process before I store the data to the db.
Now the question is that I want to do the process that I am doing but I
want to do it in the background. What I actually mean to say is that..I
just want the user to get a msg that Records Saved. But in real I want
the process to go on in background.

"upstream testing"??
[Follow-ups set to gmane.linux.centos.general]
My wife had been running CentOS 6.4 almost since
its inception; then her PC broke down.
We got a PC from System76, and Ubuntu turned out
utterly unsuitable for us, as expected -- as bad
for us as Gnome3. (I had previously bought a System76
net book (starling iirc), and immediately installed the
then current Fedora; all has been
