custom form builder
In the API docs I found this:
"You can also build forms using a customized FormBuilder class. Subclass
FormBuilder and override or define some more helpers, then use your
custom builder "
I couldn''t find any further documentation on this. Where can I read more
about this formbuilder class? For starters, where would I define a
subclass of this class?
TIA,
Jeroen

ApplicationHelper
When working with views, I use instance methods of ApplicationHelper:
# app/helpers/application_helper.rb:
module ApplicationHelper
def distribute(total, min, cutof, list)
[1,2,3]
end
end
# app/views/planner/_mta_colors.rhtml:
<td>
<%
...
dist = distribute(total_v_px, 4, 0, colors.collect{|color| color[1]})
...
%>
So to test the distribute method in ApplicationHelper, I have

Folks,
I seem to be missing something basic here.
I am trying to call a function from my application layout that will
return me a hash of the roles for the user currently signed in. Here
is the simplified code I have in ApplicationHelper module

alias_method interferes ApplicationHelper
Hello,
I''m using Ruby 1.8.4 (darwinport), rails-1.0.0 (gem) , Powerbook / Mac
OS X 10.4.5 , Webrick.
How come Rails always raises NoMethodError for my helper (must_fill and
rp or number_to_currency_rp) in application_helper.rb ?
I doubt that alias_method is the culprit, but if i give #
comment then there will be no errors at all ... :/
what am i doing wrong? is it a bug or stupid me? Thx

form_for not working with Markaby
I''m playing around with Markaby and I decided to write a little blog app.
I''m running into issues with forms however. If I use form_for the output of
the form gets swallowed. For example:
form_for :article, @article do |f|
f.text_field :title
f.check_box :published
f.text_area :description
f.text_field :pub_date
f.text_area :content
end
gets rendered as an empty form

Understanding Form_for
OK, so I''m an absolute noob at Ruby on Rails. I''ve read a lot of
information I can find about form_for and most of them use form_for to
create new items that get saved into the database and can be viewed
later to edit, destroy, etc. In this case, the database will fill up
with whatever the user wrote and I just want my program to have no
information stored.

Accessing belongs_to objects from a form_for context
In a form_for context, is there a way to access objects that are related
to the primary object with a belongs_to? I think an example will serve
best:
class User < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :person
attr_accessor :username
end
class Person < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :user
attr_accessor :first_name
end
<% form_for :user do |form| %>
<%= form.text_field

using form_for in a partial
Hello,
I would like a user to fill out a form (a long contract) and then email
it to them, including the new values.
So I was leaning towards a partial or layout so I didn''t have to write
the contract twice. But that''s where I run into problems. The only
difference between the form (contract) and the email are the form tags
will be replaced with their actual values. For

Easy question: need clarification of the form_for idiom
I''ve been trying wrap my head around one specific section of Recipe 57
in "Rails Recipes". The recipe is for image upload and processing.
I?m staring at:
<% form_for :image, @image, :url => {:action => ?create? }, :html =>
{multipart => true } do | f | %>
?
<% end %>
and the associated controller method ?create?:

form_for question
I have a following snippt to make a form.
<% form_for :post, @post, :url => { :action => "create" } do |f| -%>
<%- end ->
What does ":post" and "@post" do respectively?
If my understanding is correct, @post is there because I set "@post =
Post.new" in the action. But I don''t know what ":post " is for.

NoMethodError trying to get ApplicationHelper method from a functional test
I am a little confused by the includes I suspect. In the book, it states
that runtime environment will load the directories app, app/models,
app/controllers, app/helpers, app/apis, components, config, lib, vendor and
vendor/rails/*.
However, when I try to access my "current_project" public method, it fails
with a NoMethodError.
What is even stranger is that I can use reflection to find
