Help with Access Control
Hi,
I am following the excellent tutorial http://www.railsforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14216
(post 5) on how to implement an access control feature i.e. only a
friend is allowed to view a profile of a particular member. I am not
using the restful authentication plugin as the author is using to
implement the authentication feature (post 1) in the tutorial. All I
am interested in is the post 5

validates_confirmation_of not working?
I just can''t get validates_confirmation_of working for the life of
me!...
It''s not the first time I''m having problems with it but I just never
understand why!... This time I pretty much followed *exactly* the
example in Agile Rails Development and still...it just won''t work! I put
2 different passwords in the form and it doesn''t trigger an error,

Problem implementing password and password confirmation
Hi,
I''m trying to implement password confirmation, based on the Agile
example, but just can''t make any progress.
User DB has these fields:
=========================
t.column :name, :string, :limit => 40
t.column :hashed_password, :string
t.column :salt, :string
User model has:

bugs.digium.com
Is anyone else having trouble accessing it with something besides IE on a
Windows box? Opera on Mac/FreeBSD/Linux just hangs at the login page, IE
on Mac and Netscape on Solaris & Linux explode when loading
login_page.php.

user engine redirect configuration help
Hello,
I am using the User Engine in a typical way. When an unathenticated
user attempts to access a protected area of the site it works fine
unless the the controller has been defined in a module. i.e. When I
try and access localhost/admin/roles/list as an unathenticated user I
get redirected to localhost/admin/user/login insted of the correct
location: localhost/user/login.
I''ve

Login Redirect - Hacking the session[original_uri]
Hi There,
I have several ajax elements that require authorization, but for various
reasons, they can''t pass session[original_uri] to the redirect on user
log in. I''m trying to hack in a uri by passing a param to the login
page.
I can see that the param is passing into the login page, but for
whatever reason, no matter what I do, the user is redirected to the
homepage after

Too many open files leads to timeout exceptions in Mechanize/Net::HTTP?
I''m experiencing an issue where my get/submit calls to the Mechanize
agent are leading to timeout exceptions when the ruby script has too
many open file descriptors ( > 1000). However, I''m not seeing
anything about an overstep violation sent anywhere to syslog, and no
error message sent to stdout. The process has the large amount of
open files because it''s

login pre-filter and post data problems
Hello Folks,
I am trying to use a standard sort of login controller, whereby you
put a pre-filter on the pages on which you want the user to have to
login. This is all well an good, except for one thing. Here is some
code to save the original request uri before redirecting to the logon
page.
def authorize
...
session[:original_uri] = request.request_uri

OpenSSH on HP-UX 11 with TCB
Hi,
an updated and more civilized post (to my one and only previous one) on
getting OpenSSH to work on HP-UX 11 using the TCB. I used the HP ANSI C
compiler.
Firstly, I needed to download, compile and install OpenSSL, EGD and
ZLib.
Specific issues:
configure did not handle hpux 11
login.c did not compile
makefile did not use $(CFLAGS)
sshd did not compile (pam issues), I wanted to use

SCO OpenServer password issue
If SCO OpenServer is configured for large passwords, i.e. u_pwseg is
greater than 1 in /etc/auth/system/default, then user authentication in
auth-passwd.c will fail for users whose passwords are longer than 8
characters. The "traditional" level of security installs with
u_pwseg#1, so most users would never encounter this problem. This has
been an issue in openssh since I started using

Timing attacks and owl-always-auth
Hi All.
Attached is a patch against OpenBSD, based in part on the owl-always-auth
patch.
The idea is that the only way out of auth_passwd for the failure case is
the "return 0" at the bottom.
I don't know if this is a good way to do it or not, it's presented for
discussion.
Also, I don't think 3.6.1p2 is quite right WRT these timing issues (eg,
you get a fast failure

patch: disable credential forwarding after password auth.
Dear list,
since the order of authentication and AFS token/KRB TGT forwarding
changed (around 3.0), we have had problems with users accidentally
overwriting their credentials from a "password" login with forwarded
credentials. E.g. user A logs in as user B, but stays with the AFS
permissions of user A. A workaround is to use "-k" on these sessions,
but "it worked without

to_model
There''s a number of calls in the Rails source to convert_to_model,
which takes an activerecord object instance:
convert_to_model(object)
Here''s the thing. All convert_to_model does is calls to_model, which
returns self (the ActiveModel instance).
Am I missing something here? Why call a method that returns the same
thing?
