Problem getting the most recent has_many associated object
I can''t get my view to display the most recent parameters from an associated object in a view... here is a birds-eye of my app: I have two models, Ferms and Kinetics. Ferm has_many :kinetics, Kinetic belongs_to :ferm. Kinetic has the fields ferm_id, brix and temp. In my ferms/index view I have a table listing the attributes of each ferm instance. I would like to display the most recent

deprecation warnings
I''m still using 1.2.6 and have an eye on upgrading to 2.0 so I monitor the logs for deprecation warnings. I thought I was clean and log/development.log shows nothing when doing ''grep deprec log/development.log'' but in testing, one of my testing controllers throws a bunch of these on screen...

Password protecting access to script/console ?
Sorry if this is asked and answered before, is there away to password protected access to script/console ? I''ve seen a few posts on how to protect/encrypt the db passwords in database.yml, but that still leaves unprotected access to pretty much the same data via the console. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received

make a system call and proceed without waiting for result?
This is probably a general ruby question: in one of my models i need to make loads (up to 600 or so) of system calls with the curl command. It''s a fire-and-forget kind of deal - i don''t care, at that particular moment, whether the calls were successful or not and i certainly don''t want to keep the user waiting for the html responses to come back. Is it possible, with a

Including dynamic list of params in link_to
How do I include all incoming URL parameters (i.e. list_content.rhtml?content_id=23) in my link_to statements? I know I can include specific parameters in the link_to, by using ":variable_name => 123" in the link_to statement... But what If I dont'' know what the incoming parameters will be... and I simply want to include them along with any other specific variables I

Stack Level Too Deep Error (can't seem to figure it out)
Hi all, I am running into a weird issue where my application is giving me a stack level too deep error. I can''t seem to find where my code is throwing this error. On the machine I developed this code on, this error does not show up when I run rails s but when I move the code to another system to run it this error shows up. The system that this code runs fine on is a mac os x machine

link_to should have its body and url arguments reversed
I think the link_to helper method is quite confusing with its arguments order: link_to body, url link_to "Click me", @person Why is it thay way round? I want to make a "link to [the] person", so I would expect the order to be: link_to @person, "Click me" It reads much more natural. You don''t "link to [the] body", you "link to

application controller security
Shouldn''t everything in the application controller be protected by default? I just realized that my app can be called like this: www.myapp.com/application/method and it actually tries to run that method inside my application controller. Is everyone else just adding "protected" at the top? Thanks, Chad --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this

Ever changing environment... stop it??
Hi all... relative new guy.... I am a new rails developer but am working as hard as I can to become competent. What are your best practices for locking down an environment to develop projects in? I want to set up a server and also a local environment then build projects for ... say... 6 months without changing anything... is this done in practice? Thanks, Shawn -- You received this message

LDAP Authentication fails with ñ character in password.
Hi Guys, I''ve got a rails application that uses activeldap to authenticate users. Its been working great for about 6 months now, but a user from mexico started using it recently, but can''t seem to login. I''ve narrowed it down to the fact that his password contains a ñ character in it. This problem is also present in a test user account I''ve setup. ActiveLDAP

Hash flattening on paginator link_to
Hey I need some help with pagination and the link_to in the view. I''m trying to include a hash in the pagination link_to params and it keeps flattening out my hash. Example: Here''s my hash called @answer: "answer"=>{"6"=>"9bf31c7ff062936a96d3c8bd1f8f2ff3", "7"=>"6f4922f45568161a8cdf4ad2299f6d23"}

Using link_to with an image tag & link text
Hi , I was trying to use link_to along with image_tag to setup a link that would open in an external window. But I was unable to make a link using both text & an image So my current workaround looks like this inside a partial where link is http://foo.com & text would be descriptive <img src="images/arrow.gif" border="0"/> <%= link_to(text, link, :popup

Destructive behavior with link_to, button_to, :post=>true
Hello- I would like to know what the suggested practice is for having multiple submit buttons on a relatively complicated input page. Let''s use the example of a Contact. There is lots of info there, including name, address, phone number. There is also a list of "contact associations" which can be modified on the same page. Ideally, the user could have one

absolute urls in url_for vs. link_to
In both url_for and link_to, the :only_path param can be used to determine whether the link url used is complete with hostname and path, or just has the path (a kind of relative url). However, in url_for it defaults to false (urls with hostnames), and in link_to it defaults to true ( urls without hostnames, just paths). Is there any reason for this discrepency? To me, it violates the principle

scaffold uses link_to for destroy
Hi, I wonder why scaffolding uses a link_to tag for the destroy links. Seems like these should be POST requests with button_to. The Rails book dedicates pages 335-337 to this very issue. Peter
