csv/Rails 3/ruby 1.9.2p0/mysql encoding problem
I''m having an encoding problem, even though I''m attempting to have all my data always be in utf-8. Here''s the path the data takes: I have a CSV file that I believe is in utf-8, because I''m looking at it in a hex editor. One of the words is: 64 65 62 74 6F 72 E2 80 99 73 which translates to: debtor’s [that is, it contains a smart apostrophe] Now,

Encoding problems, applying a patch, how to???
So, i''m facing issues with encoding, since I need to write an application in portuguese-brazilian. This is the error i''m getting: "incompatible character encodings: UTF-8 and ASCII-8BIT" The curious thing is that i have a few other views with "special" characters, like Á or Ç, and all of them works. I have saved this view using the UTF-8 char encoding and

Problem with non-ascii characters in forms: "incompatible character encodings: UTF-8 and ASCII-8BIT"
Hi First off, I''m using Ruby 1.9.1p378 and Rails 2.3.8. I was creating a minimal application to test handling of Norwegian special characters when I bumped into this strange problem... I have a simple Car model with fields maker:string and model:string. For the controller I planned to just have an index action do all the work: class CarsController < ApplicationController def index

Rails, 1.9 & Encoding - does it work?
Hey all, I''ve been looking into moving our Rails app to 1.9 and am having lots of trouble with string encodings, especially when it comes to file uploads. We allow users to upload text files, which may, or may not, have accented characters in them. If there are accented characters, we insist that the file is UTF-8, but if there are no accented characters we don''t care what

Encoding problems with Rails 3 + Ruby 1.9.1 (big surprise)
I have kind of an interesting problem. I have a form wherein people enter information. Big surprise. If they enter any "weird" characters like ø or é or whatever, the form will submit and all is well. However, I have a select box for the state which, if you''re looking at Spain, has states like A Coruña, Cádiz and País Vasco. These are pulled from the database which is set to

I''m writing an upload script for contact management, but having encoding issues: #=> Encoding::UndefinedConversionError: "\xFA" from ASCII-8BIT to UTF-8 I will not always know the encoding supplied, and this is the result of `some_string.encode("UTF-8")` I have also tried .force_encoding("UTF-8") to no avail. form_tag with remote=>true Error during failsafe response:
I am trying to find out why form_tag with remote => true is not sending an ajax response and only sending HTML. I have started a basic Rails App with two pages and am following the Railscast 205 UJS example. Every time I include:- <%= form_tag homepages_path, :method => ''get'', remote => true do %> I get from the server(WEBrick):- (Ruby 1.9.2 and Rails 3) A 500

incompatible character encodings: UTF-8 and ASCII-8BIT
Hi as part of our setup we have erb templates that are SQL files, we parse then to add in some user details to the SQL (these come from a hiera json file created from PHP) before using that file to create the database. If that data includes UTF-8 characters (for example an e with an acute accent) we get the error: Failed to parse template Detail: incompatible character encodings: UTF-8 and

"incompatible character encodings: ASCII-8BIT and UTF-8"
Hi! Just started to learn Rails, and I get this error when i''m trying to make a simple forum-app (much like the screencast about making a blog in 15min at rubyonrails.org). This appears when I try to render a partial - that is posting a comment containing swedish letters å (å), ä (ä) and ö (ö). I can view those posts by going to localhost:3000/posts/ using

Spreadsheet gem character encoding
Hi everybody I''am working on a Rails app (using utf-8) in which I use the Spreadsheet gem to generate Excel files (.xls in my case). I ran into some issues when trying to write foreign characters to the generated Excel-File. Encoding
What''s a good solution for fixing character encoding problems for compatibility between ascii and utf-8? The database is postgres and is encoded in utf-8. Once in awhile there will be a compatibility error from strings from a webform. Is there a command to fix this besides using a_string.force_encoding(''utf-8'')? Even this doesn''t seem to always work either.
