Rails3: render_to_string of a .html.erb when request is a json request raises MissingTemplate error
I''ve the following situation (which actually works in Rails 2.3.8 and this is a result of the migration of our app to rails3): I have a partial which is rendered a few times (imagine tr''s in a table). On the clientside there''s a script that does a json request for a specific row (jQuery + ajax dataType: ''json'' and type: ''POST'') In

Render a view from console
Hello! In my application I''m trying to render a view from a class in /lib folder. I have found that it''s very similar to render a view from console. So, I have tried different methods: >> string = ActionView::Base.new.render( :inline => ''works'', :layout => false ) => "works" >> string = ActionView::Base.new.render( :template =>

Re: Train wreck getting render_to_string to work from foreign controller [SOLVED]
Just for collective knowledge as I have found no info on this problem online: I solved this by adding an .html.erb file for the "missing template", since by design or bug Rails3 will not find or render another controllers view (in my experience). Then in the new html.erb file, I just put <%= render "comparisons/display" %> because the views *are* able to find templates

respond_with javascript

Rendering a Partial as an Alternative
Suppose that I want to have a block of default content within a template that is replaced with the content of a specific partial only if that partial exists. Obviously there is the brute force approach of simply rendering the default content unless the relevant partial file exists in which case the relevant partial is rendered instead. I suspect that there may be a more elegant way to skin this

stubbing helper methods for View specs
Hi there I have several view specs, that include the following snippet in their "before" block to stub the methods by acts_as_authenticated before :each do @u = mock_model(User) @u.should_receive(:name).and_return("Hans Muster") template.should_receive(:logged_in?).and_return(true) template.should_receive(:current_user).and_return(@u) end this

include ActionView::Helpers in Rails 3?
How do you do the equivalent of: module MyLibrary include ActionView::Helpers::AssetTagHelper end ...in Rails 3? I''m trying to upgrade my app from 2.3.9 to 3.0.1 and I have some stuff in /lib that needs to include these helpers from ActionView. It works fine in 2.3.x, but in 3.x it''s giving me the error: undefined local variable or method `config'' One of the

ActionView::Template::Error: end of file reached Rails 4.0.4
I have an application I'm migrating from Rails 3.2 to 4.0. On my CI environment, I'm getting "ActionView::Template::Error: end of file reached" randomly in different controller specs pointing to a view in which I have "javascript_include_tag 'application'". Has anyone seen this before? Relevant gems: rails (4.0.4) sprockets (2.11.0) sprockets-rails (2.0.1)

ERB and Builder template engines shouldn''t be so heavily wired in ActionView::Base
Problem: 1. ERB and Builder template engines are heavily wired in ActionView::Base 2. Should be optional. If we use different engine - why load all their stuff if not needed? 3. There are template engines which expect files in their own locations and cache them in their own way. For instance a template engine may store templates in a database. These engines don''t need any central source
