Memcached 1.6.5 (Rails 2.3) 10x slower
The move to memcached_client 1.6.5 in Rails 2.3 seems to have made the
Rails cache about 10x slower. Since that''s the opposite effect I
would expect, I was hoping somebody would explain where I''m misreading
these numbers?
I noticed my fragment caching was slow -- it shouldn''t take 2ms just
to read a 2k string from a localhost memcached server:

ActiveRecord::Persistence.increment! requires a row lock to ensure isolated updates
The method is here:
https://github.com/rails/rails/blob/master/activerecord/lib/active_record/persistence.rb#L288.
The method takes the in-memory attribute value and increments it by the
specified amount. A safer approach (from an isolation standpoint) would be
to let the database determine the value. Instead of telling the database
what value to persist in the database, the SQL can written

Stop updated_at from auto updating?
Hi
Is there any way to temporarily stop the updated_at field from being
updated when a record is modified with ActiveRecord?
I have a date field which is keeping track of when the record data was
last checked by my application and my app manually updates it, of course
when I do this the updated_at field is also touched making it fairly
useless for finding out when the actual data was changed

Rails plugins new official maintainers
Hey guys,
This is the final list of the new maintainers of each plugin.
We need two more things to do:
First please the owners of the repos add the rest of the maintainers.
Second I will add a note on each rails/plugin mentioning this repos updates.
So from now on, if someone else is interested in helping/contributing
please send a message to the appropriate repo owner.

Hello all,
Ive got Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8), ruby 1.8.6 (2009-06-08 patchlevel

with Rails 2.1.0.

Observing few fields in a form - Best Practise?
Hi,
im looking to build a page similar to a shopping cart page. When you
change the ''price'' or ''quantity'' fields, the total is calculated and
displayed.
There are other fields in the form which have no relation to this
action. So i guess observe_form is not required. Can someone tell me
what the best practise is for this?

lost in an ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid
I have an error I don''t know how to debug. I am adding the login
suport in Depot (the example in the RoR book) and
LoginController#add_user throws ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid in an
innocent /login/add_user GET request.
The trace goes down to a call to SQLiteAdapter#table_structure, and
the source code suggests what''s happening is that "PRAGMA

RE: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid error after app has beenrunning for a while
I have this problem as well... After so many hours of inactivity, I get
"statement invalid" and if I restart Apache or WEBrick, everything works
fine again.
What steps can I take to fix this? I don''t want to have to restart the
server!

Be more discriminating in rescue and wrapping with StatementInvalid
Hi all,
I just submitted a patch to 2-3-stable on lighthouse and wanted to
bring it to folks general attention.
https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994-ruby-on-rails/tickets/896-be-a-little-more-discerning-about-which-exceptions-to-handle
My explanation is a bit long-winded, but here''s the motivation for the
patch, as explained in the lighthouse ticket:

Agile Rails book: depot problem
I recently finished the first part of the "Agile Rails" book. But, the
depot doesn''t completely work as it should. I still have 2 problems:
I will explain them in 2 threads.
The first one is:
I can''t destroy products (I can only creat and update them). When I try
to delete a product --> http://localhost:3001/admin/destroy/3
I get this error message:

Odds are you
want an instance of Array instead.

ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid error after app has been running for a while
Hi,
I''m having a bit of a problem with a rails app and I wonder if anyone can help.
It seems to run fine for a while, but if it''s left running too long
(left running as a fastcgi or webrick process that is) it starts
failing with an "ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid" error (i''ve included
the full error from the log file below).
I''m seeing this on both
