how to use activemodel collection.build for a has_many :through association
Hi all,
In my controller I am doing the following to populate a nested form for a
has_many through association:

@specification = Specification.new
Component.find_each.each do |component|
@specification.component_specifications.build(:component_id =>

The idea being whenever someone creates or edits a form, it will be

2.3 Nested Model Forms; build new without updating existing
I''m trying to build something similar to a Facebook messaging app, in
which the view displays all the messages for a particular thread, with
a form box for replying at the bottom of the thread.
The problem is that using fields_for generates form fields for each
existing record, and for one new record. In this case, there is no
need to edit existing messages - just a need to add new

Help filling out a registration (I think it's called multi tenant)
Do you know when you are filling out a registration for a new account, and
you keep pressing next to fill the rest of the information in separate
pages?
I''d like to do that, but I have no idea how.
Basically I have a company model with its information, and a contacts model,
with belongs to my company (also each company has only one contact), and I''d

Problems Processing multiple form elements generated by javascript actions
Hi all,
After many days of struggling, I have a multi-model form with ajax
elements more or less working, but I''m hitting a wall with a few bugs
that I can''t figure out. Guidance would be very much appreciated.
I''m using the Ryan Bates technique from Advanced Rails recipes to
dynamically add and remove elements on a multi-model form.

Pre-populating association
Hello,
I think this is an easy one for the average Rails developer but I''m a bit stuck.
I''m creating a simple voting app: any user can create a survey, with any number of questions, and other users can then vote by creating a ballot for that survey.
Here''s the modeling:
class Survey < ActiveRecord::Base

has_many :eligibilities

belongs_to --- has_many should update automatically?
On p. 299 of the current Rails book it says that "Active Record takes
care of saving all the dependent child rows when you save a parent
row." So, when I add a row to the table that has "belongs_to" in its
model, shouldn''t the table with the "has_many" be updated with data
from the foreign key? If not, how do I save data from a form into
more than one

How to manage the form of a model that has two foreign keys

Question about PATCH method, accepts_nested_attributes_for, and updates to association lists (has_many, HABTM)
Am interested in the new PATCH method that will be included in Rails 4, but
have a question/concern, and forgive me if I''m misunderstanding it.
So, if the request parameter _method is set to "patch", the update is
processed as a patch.
But, let''s say you have a model called Airplane and Airplane has a
collection of FlightCrewMembers which it

filter_parameter_logging for multi model forms
Hi all,
I have a multi model form setup in the classic Ryan Bates Complex
forms style (railscasts.com/episodes/73) for my signup page.
The two models in this are the Account model and the User model and
this structure cannot be changed right now. The User model has
password and password_conf attributes which are, unfortunately, taken
alongwith the rest of the User''s attributes into an
