R-beta: Problem with help
I am new to R. Just installed it on an SGI running IRIX5.3. The install seemed to go fine. Some basic commands worked as did the demo(). However, I get the following when trying to run help at the command line in R. > help() Error in gsub(pattern, replacement, x, ignore.case, extended) : POSIX regular expressions not available > My best guess is that configure was unable to find

Devices question
Are the old "Devices" printer() and crc() still available? I am running R 0.63.3 on an SGI O2 with irix6.2 remotely from a dumb terminal at home. It would be nice to have some graphics. The dumb terminal (an old 8086 I think PC) does have a Tek graphics card if I need to use it. Any help/advice would be appreciated. -- Michael Gass Department of Mathematics phone: 320 363-3090

RGL package installation problem on Centos
Dear R users, I have installed the latest version of R from source on Centos (using configure and make install). This seemed to work fine, with no Errors reported and R at the command line starts R. However, if I try and installed the package rgl using; install.packages("rgl") I get the following error; installing to /usr/local/lib64/R/library/rgl/libs ** R ** demo ** inst ** preparing

compiling kernel without -O
Hello! Is it possible to compile kernel without '-O' option? When my COPTFLAGS=-O -pipe, it compiles fine. When I change COPTFLAGS=-pipe, it breaks: cc -c -pipe -Wall -Wredundant-decls -Wnested-externs -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmis sing-prototypes -Wpointer-arith -Winline -Wcast-qual -fformat-extensions -ansi -g -nostdinc -I- -I. -I../.. -I../../../include -I../../contrib/ipfilter

using libparanoia
Hi there, I was looking for stack smashing protection under freebsd, so i found libparanoia (/usr/ports/security/libparanoia), i had only one question using the normal 'make install' (so no copy-to-libc). If i add in /ert/make.conf: CFLAGS= -O -pipe -lparanoia -L/usr/local/lib COPTFLAGS= -O -pipe -lparanoia -L/usr/local/lib Will EVERYTHING build from that time (including

Hello all, I'm looking to setup a new CentOS box for a buddy of mine who wants to do hosting on a server via CoLo, Years ago I whipped up a CP of my own on a Debian box he colo'd running a basterdized qmail/tinydns and custom built httpd/mysql/etc (I was young). It worked ok but time to move on and I don't have time to maintain all those packages. I also don't have time to write

rgl install for R 3.7
I?ve installed R 3.7.0 on a new laptop running macos 10.14.5 and have managed to get most of my usual packages to compile from source with a ~/.R/Makevars file that looks like this: CC=/usr/local/clang8/bin/clang CXX=/usr/local/clang8/bin/clang++ LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/clang8/lib CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/clang8/include -I/opt/X11/include/freetype2 FC=/usr/local/gfortran/bin/gfortran

wine-20050211 on SuSE 9.2
I am trying to install wine-20050211 on my second system, which runs SuSE 9.2. After much faffing around I finally managed to download and install bison, which allowed ./config to complete. A warning at the end advised me to install xlib-devel or xfree86-devel. Googling around I found the RPM for XFree86-devel for SuSE 9.1 so I downloaded it and started to install it. Unfortunately, a

R-beta: Problem with functions using sub and gsub
Previously I had problems with data(foo) and Gass and I had problems with help(). His diagnostic was "POSIX regular expressions not available" and mine was "invalid regular expression". Martin Maechler has no problems with Solaris 2.5 and suggested a regular expression library was needed, e.g., regex-x.xx. Solaris 2.4 has regex.o in /usr/ccs/libgen.a and regex.h in

Hello, helpeRs, I am attempting to reshape (either base R or package reshape) multiple .csv spreadsheets from a very unfortunate wide format to long format. ?Each spreadsheet looks something like this, after being read in to R: toy <- data.frame(year = rep(2007:2008,each = 20), month = rep(1:5,each = 4, length = 40), day = rep(1:2,each = 2,length = 40), hhmm = rep(1100:1101,length = 40),

conditional selection of dataframe rows
Dear helpeRs, I have a dataframe (14947 x 27) containing measurements collected every 5 seconds at several different sampling locations. If one measurement at a given location is less than zero on a given day, I would like to delete all measurements from that location on that day. Here is a toy example: toy <- data.frame(CH = rep(3:5,3), DAY = c(rep(4,5), rep(5,4)), SLOPE =

ProPolice/SSP in 7.0
Hi there, I'm still running 6.2 on various servers without any tweaks (GENERIC kernel, binary updates via freebsd-update etc.) but lots of ports (apache, postgresql, diablo-jdk etc.) and would like to use stack smashing protection in order to harden my boxes and avoid many potential exploits. I've known about ProPolice/SSP for a while now (from the Gentoo world) and am aware that

Reinstalling boot blocks on a ZFS-only system
So, I've long known and it makes sense that when you're booted from a ZFS volume, you can't mess with the boot-loader. And, I know a few months ago I had a set of commands I would use when booted from a CD that would initialize the network and copy the "release/boot" from somewhere else so that I could install bootblocks and boot-loaders from more recent code. Sadly, I

fontconfig-2.1.93 considered more harmful
There is an ongoing thread "fontconfig-2.1.92 considered harmful" on -CURRENT. Because I have not moved to -CURRENT, I post this to -STABLE. Since I upgraded to fontconfig-2.1.93 (on Apr 14) a lot of ports start to complain a lot of "Cannot fork: Resource temporarily unavailable" errors. What resource ? I inserted top into my ports build script to notice that a lot of
