device independent qdisc?
Hello ALL,
is there a way to have a device independent qdisc, or a qdisc on some kind
of virtuall interface?
Background: I have a 5-Interface-Router with one Internet-Uplink. The
Router should connect the clients on the other Interfaces to the Internet
and to each other client. As i understood the hole TC stuff i can only get
influence of outgoing traffic. In my case i can reduce the traffic of

winbindd using FQDN domain name now?
As of RC3 and RC4, I've noticed that winbindd's wb_getpwuid function
is using the form <FQDN-domain><winbind-seperator><username>, and
before, it was simply <NetBIOS-domain><winbind-seperator><username>.
The net effect of what I'm seeing is that users which have a UNIX
account locally on the samba box and also a domain account are being

winbind stops authenticating until a restart.
About a month ago, I setup a Windows 2000 native-mode domain, and had
a couple of Linux machines join the active directory. I followed the
steps outlined in the Samba 3.0 docs regarding winbind/PAM/NSS. The
machines joined the domain fine, and 'wbinfo -t', as well as 'wbinfo
-u/-g' and 'getent passwd/group' return expected results. Connecting

winbind/kerberos with multiple DCs fail to authenticate.
While testing the latest Samba3.0.0beta3, I notice that if I don't
specify a password server winbind appears to look it up via DNS, and
with two DCs, picks one. However, my krb5.conf specifies a particular
Kerberos server (one of the two DCs), and so occasionally, winbind
will pick the first DC, and kerberos uses the other.
When this happens, I can't seem to connect to any shares on the

iproute2 src/FreeS/WAN
Hi!
I''ve got two FreeS/WAN gateways setup, with one subnet<->subnet tunnel
setup, which is working fine.
I''ve setup iproute2 to route anything for either subnet via the ipsec0
device using a src address of the local interface. This is to force
locally generated traffic (ie, traffic generated on the server) to go
through the VPN, rather than out with a source IP of the

wbinfo fails with disable netbios = yes
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this one. Ever since beta3
I've been unable to get wbinfo to work properly. I finally worked
around it today, and it seems that with the disable netbios = yes
parameter in my smb.conf file, I get no results. Commenting out that
parameter seems to work fine. It looks like the DNS queries for DCs
is unsuccessful without NetBIOS enabled.

Since no one else chimed in, I did some googling, and it looks like someone has already filed a bug that looks pretty similar:

Error accessing [homes] after 3.0.25b update (uppercase)
OS is smeserver, based on CentOS/RHEL 4.
After update to samba 3.0.25b (included in RHEL U6) users who had
"mapped" their home in Network places were unable to access the share.
All other shares worked.
On every attempt a line similar to the following was logged:

tcp redirect questions
Hi there. Currently, our network design has two ISP
lines and 3 subnets for LAN. Below are some details :-
eth0 - isp1
eth1 - isp2
eth2 - subnet1
eth3 - subnet2
eth4 - subnet3
What i wanted to do is to assign incoming port 80 to
our local squid server running on the firewall itself
and assigned it to eth0(ISP1). I think it shouldnt be
a problem as /etc/shorewall/rules provides a sample of

Multiple ISP + traffic shapping = poor download speed
Hello,
Thanks for the great Shorewall which has replaced my hard to maintain home-made scripts.
First, what works.
Our local network is 10.48.X.X with multiple vlan, each on a dedicated interface. We use Shorewall 4.4.11 from Debian Squeeze.
We have a 2 ISP:
- isp1 : an optical fiber provider with 10 Mbps.
- isp2 : a DSL provider with 15Mbits/1Mbits.
We use isp2 as the default outgoing

I set up this config:

No problem. Standard setup with two ISP''s. Both routed subnets. Default
gateway is ISP1. No magic here.
Now I put a server behind the Linux box. I want the server to be
reachable on an /extra/ IP in the routed subnet of ISP2.

Problem with multiple ADSL lines
Hi all,
I have managed to setup a Fedora 7 box with 3 ethernet cards and two ADSL
modem/routers from different suppliers as LARTC recommends. I am able to
direct traffic for specific internal IPs either to one or the other ADSL
line. However, I am faced with two problems I am struggling for the
solution:
1. I have opened a few ports on the ADSL router/firewalls to talk to
internal hosts; say when

Slightly OT: trying to mangle packets from Asterisk for a multiple ISP setup (reward)
Hi,
Reward offered: 50$ (paypal), and I am sure this is a ridiculous thing I
have missing.
My goal: On a 2 NIC Asterisk box, to send packets that came in Asterisk on
NIC1 back to NIC 1, and NIC2 back to NIC 2. (basically, send them back the
same way they came from).
I have been doing what was recommended to me and mangling packets left and
right. I have reached a point where I am
