How can I dynamiclly generate models?
I am trying to write a plugin, ''acts_as_commentable'', for my models - Image, Book, Music and so on, I do not want to use polymorphic association, so very model should have its own comment class. Here is my code acts_as_commentable.rb module Commentable def self.included(base) base.extend(ClassMethods) end module ClassMethods def

acts_as_commentable release
I now have the acts_as_commentable plugin up on RubyForge. This plugin will allow you to add comments to any active_record object in your Rails application. So far the directions are simple, and there are only a few features: To install: ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org//var/svn/commentable/acts_as_commentable In the readme there is a sample migration you will need to use, with

Very odd NoMethodError/stack overflow....
I''m getting this very weird error and I can''t figure out what the problem is. I''m using acts_as_commentable. Basically, I have a partial with this code in it: <div id="<%= ''#{comment.commentable_type}_comment_# {comment.commentable_id}'' %>" class="comment"> <dl> <dt><%= link_to comment.user.login,

Possible to ask rspec to show more code in the debugger?
This came up from an other issue where I needed to go check something in test::unit. Immediately when I dropped into the debugger in test::unit I saw something I have been missing: test unit by default shows a number of lines of code. Is there a way to make the rspec debugger do this? I am not sure if it is just me, but seems to me that when I moved to rspec, certain things which seemed to be

acts_as_commentable validations
Hi all, I recently started back up with Rails and things are going well up until now. I''ve set up acts_as_commentable in my Post model and it''s working great. Problem is users are able to create a "blank" comment. I''ve added the following validations in the comment.rb file generated by acts_as_commentable to limit the comment length: [code]

Anyone using the rspec textmate bundle with Ruby 1.9.1
I''m now in the process of facing converting a rails app to use Ruby 1.9.1. Has anyone figured out how to use 1.9 with the RSpec bundle in textmate and preferably how to switch back and forth? -- Rick DeNatale Blog: http://talklikeaduck.denhaven2.com/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/RickDeNatale WWR: http://www.workingwithrails.com/person/9021-rick-denatale LinkedIn:

Class method not being stubbed
Hi guys. I''m setting an expectation on a class method. For some reason, the method isn''t being stubbed, and the expectation isn''t seeing the call. In KeywordListsController#create, I call the private method #create_keywords_and_associate, which calls AdSenseHeavenParser#parse . Thus, some of my specs set an expectation on AdSenseHeavenParser#parse . However, that

Problems running features with Textmate Cucumber bundle
I finally plunked down for the beta RSpec bundle and I''m working through the initial example. Although I''m a fairly experienced RSpec user, I''m stlll learning new tricks. Anyway, I''m going though the mastermind example, and everything is going well, except that I decided to also try out the Textmate bundle for Cucumber. I decided to use Ben Mabey''s

Any pioneers who've configured passenger to support some apps running in 1.8.x others in 1.9?
Passenger configuration selects which ruby executable to use via a global configuration variable (at least for Apache, I assume it''s the same for Nginx). I''m in a situation where I''ve got at least one rails app I''d like to run on 1.9 while others remain on 1.8. This is for my development machine running OS X 10.6. Normally I just use the Passenger PrefPane,

acts_as_whatever
Hi there, I love the acts_as_* family that rails uses. I''ve also found I can create something similar by dropping the following code into my activerecord classes: class MyClass < ActiveRecord::Base class << self alias_method :count_with_unapproved, :count end def self.find(*args) options = extract_options_from_args!(args) if options[:conditions].nil? options[:conditions] =

inheritance with rails.
Hello. I''ve read about examples on inheritance with rails. Here is an example: http://juixe.com/techknow/index.php/2006/06/03/rails-single-table-inheritance/ The way is to add a type field in the table. So if I have an Animal class with an attribute name, I can inherit from this class like: Dog < Animal, Cat < Animal, and so on. With the type field in the table I can do Dog.all,

Object lost in memory/trashed?
Hi, I''ve got a problem on which I''ve spent many hours, and I can''t get a clue on what is happening... I hope someone here will be able to help me. Here is the situation : my Rails app uses acts_as_commentable and acts_as_bookmarkable on a Diagram model. Everything''s working OK individually: I can create a comment on a Diagram, bookmark it, and so on. Now,

Default Test library
Along the same lines as the default javascript library discussion [1], why don''t we switch the default test library to RSpec? The stats [2] posted by Xaviar in the other thread seem to support that RSpec is the preferred way to test.
