Version naming to use in a RoR proyect
Hi everyone,
I would need to know if RoR follow any policy for version naming; I
mean, something like linux´s kernel does or similar.
For instance, kernel uses numbers separated in groups by dots (i.e.
pre 2.6 - AA.BB.CC). These groups mean differents fixtures, bugs
fixed...
I will start a big proyect from scratch with rails and I want to
choose now a standart to use and avoid future problems

Webistrano recipes association (was: [Capistrano] Webistrano 1.3 released)
I see at some point recipes were changed from project-associated to
stage-associated, is there some explanation or examples of that use-case?
Could I request we have both? In my current cap scripts, we don''t have any
stage-specific recipes, but maybe I''m just not understanding this
completely.

What do you think about commercial applications for Rails?
Hello all,
I''m a RoR fan. I''ve read some RoR books, and I''m starting to use RoR for
commercial proyects.
As I use RoR more and more, I think about inexistent tools that would be
great to have when developing applications in RoR. For example: an IDE
with more features than RadRails. So then I think "hey! you could
produce one of these tools".
Some of these

Samba ACLs and NFS ACLs:Differing results
I have two users on my network, Mary and Bob, who work together in a
shared share. They both belong to the group Accounting. Bob is a savvy
Linux user who accesses the share via NFS4. Mary toils away using
Windows accessing the share via the Samba server. Mary will create a
directory on the share and dump a number of files in which Bob and Mary
will split the load. Bob, being a LInux user, will

File permissions issue: different behavior between samba and unix
I'm seeing behavior that I was hoping somebody could explain. I have a
share set up that will be a repository for company-wide data. There are
three classes of people who can access it, readers, read/writers, and
admins. Readers and read/writers are self explanatory, admins have
read/write access, and can change the permissions/ownership of files.
Read and write access is controlled by

Encoding Problem / mod_rails / passenger / Postgresql 8.3
Hi,
when I use mod_rails/passenger with apache2 on linux instead of
webbrick for our application, then it stops working with certain
browsers like the ie, and konqueror but still works with firefox.
I get the following error message:
ActionView::TemplateError (PGError: ERROR: invalid byte sequence for
encoding "UTF8": 0xad

File descriptor passing broken in FreeBSD 7?
Hi,
I recently tried to use the newly released mod_rails
(www.modrails.com) for Apache, and discovered it doesn't work on
FreeBSD 7. It does however work on FreeBSD 6 just fine.
I tracked it down to sendmsg() as detailed here:
http://code.google.com/p/phusion-passenger/issues/detail?id=16
The mod_rails/passenger unit tests fail on FD passing, as do the Ruby
1.8.6 standard unit

Retaining Permissions on a share
Hi all,
Sorry to repost about this same issue once again, but I'm really at a
complete loss as to how to solve the problem with ownership being changed
after I've set it.
I've set ownership as follows... ( set this by chmod -R 0770 HR, as well as
chgroup -R HR-Group, I then signed into a Windows PC that was part of the
domain, went to computer management as per the WIKI and chose

SAMBA Problem - Users take ownership
Hi,
I have a problem with my Samba/WinBIND implementation. In folders shared by multiple people the last one to access and modify a file takes ownership of the file and changes the permissions so other users cannot make changes to the same file:
[root@atlas PLANNING RECORDS]# cd REGIONAL\ 1\ AIRLINE\ DOCS/
[root@atlas REGIONAL 1 AIRLINE DOCS]# ls -al

Shares requiring "Everyone" access...
I believe I have found either a bug or something I do not understand. I
recently had a file-share issue and the resolution was to set the
"others" permissions to 5, read and execute. The problem with this is
that once I am in Windows on a workstation, this appears to allow
"Everyone", "CREATOR OWNER", and "CREATOR GROUP" access. We normally
