ruby xapian bindings and windows
Hi, I've compiled xapian 1.0.9 (core and buildings) on Windows Xp, using Lemur's nmake files[1]. I'm trying to use acts_as_xapian [2] on RubyOnRails, but I'm facing a problem with the rebuild index process. in acts_as_xapian, to rebuild the index, a new Xapian::WritableDatabase is created with a different path, then flush() is invoked; lastly, the new path is renamed to the old

xapian parser bug?
David — this isn't the behaviour I see what QueryParser alone, unless you're driving it in a way I don't expect. In python: >>> import xapian >>> qp = xapian.QueryParser() >>> qp.add_prefix('subject', 'S') >>> str(qp.parse_query('subject:"and"', qp.FLAG_DEFAULT|qp.FLAG_BOOLEAN_ANY_CASE)) 'Query(Sand at 1)'

Xapian core dumping on Solaris
Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with xapian (the matchspy branch, with Python bindings) on Solaris 10 / SPARC. Users can run queries for a few hours with no problems, then it returns "inflate failed (invalid code lengths set)" to Python and dumps core. gdb reports: #0 0xfe6dc910 in inflate_table () from /usr/lib/libz.so.1 #1 0xfe6d9d6c in inflate () from /usr/lib/libz.so.1 #2

Xapian Ruby bindings as a Ruby Gem
Hello everyone, I'm very interested in packaging the Xapian Ruby bindings as a gem for easier installation and integration into Ruby projects. I came to this idea, because many Ruby developers face the problem of installing xapian under hosting service where they have no root rights. And Xapian is THE essential part of the Rails plugin acts_as_xapian, wich brings all the Xapian features to

Integrated Chinese tokenizer SCWS in xapian-core
Xapian is a very excellent open source search engine library, but there is no native support for Chinese word segmentation in queryparser and termgenerator. Therefore, I modified small amount of source codes, integrated into the SCWS tokenizer, that is the same open-source and developped by myself. Anyone can obtain the patch from below URL. After patching, Xapian::QueryParser::parse_query and

Bug and patch for +terms with wildcards
In current Xapian SVN HEAD, there is a bug in the query parser concerned with the handling of wildcard terms with a "+" prefix. Specifically, a query such as "+foo* bar" will be parsed by the query parser into Xapian::Query("bar") if there are no terms in the database which start "foo". Instead, since the "+" term cannot be matched, I believe

Welcome to the "Xapian-discuss" mailing list
Please keep replies on the mailing list — more people can help (and benefit) that way :) So OP_NEAR looks for its terms close to each other (hence "near"). The window is how far away they can be. Probably the easiest way to play with this is using the NEAR syntax in the query parser. So if you had a plain text document: I am walking, always walking. And index it in a very simple

acts_as_xapian?
Anybody using Xapian with Ruby on Rails? If so, I'd like: a) Any advice on the state of the Ruby bindings. b) Even a skeletal version of acts_as_xapian - I'd be happy to help flesh it out, and test it. Francis

wildcards and prefix searches
Hey all, I'm using Xapian through acts_as_xapian and would like to know why trailing wildcards do not work on prefix searches. Specifically, I have a Merchant model with a Description field, mapped to the prefix "desc". If I then search for "desc:goods" I get 4 matches, but if I search for "desc:goo*" I get 0. However, when searching normal, non-prefixed

Xapian Benchmark results
Hi, I am currently trying to benchmark a multithreaded xapian implementation on a chameleon baremetal instance written in C++. My workload is a 3 Gig wikipedia xml dump consisting of ~286 file of different sizes. My results are showing me that indexing on xapian is an order of magnitude faster than my lucene and lucene plusplus implementations. This is a result that I did not expect. Just want to

QueryParser::parse_query() uses OR by default? How to switch to AND?
I use the QueryParser::parse_query() method but I see it uses "OR" by default between words? Is there a way to make it use "AND" instead? I see there are flags I can pass to the parse_query() method but none seems to allow a switch from OR to AND. I would like to do that without having to write my own query parser. Everything else is fine with the QueryParser parsing, for
