RSpec for dummies screencast?
Does anyone know of any RSpec screencasts for dummies, like me :) I have a Java background, but I have never written a java test in my life. I''ve never learned about TDD or BDD so I''m totally blank on everything that has anything to do with testing and stuff. Where should I start?!? ;) Christian... --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this

UFT8 String looks great in MySql, garbage in browser
Hi, I have some seed data in MySql which contains non-ASCII characters (as you''d imagine as these are worldwide placenames that I''m storing). In MySql on the command line they look great, they''re all formatted perfectly, including Arabic and Chinese characters and they look great. However, when I ask my Rails model for one of these fields, and render that in the

Sessions
I''m an experienced programmer, but new to Rails. I would like to echo an unanswered question I''ve recently read elsewhere. Can any recommend an overview of get/post, cookies, sessions, etc., and how Ruby on Rails interacts with all of this? I''m interested in understanding how to harden a Rails application Regards -- Dave

Help filling out a registration (I think it's called multi tenant)
Do you know when you are filling out a registration for a new account, and you keep pressing next to fill the rest of the information in separate pages? I''d like to do that, but I have no idea how. Basically I have a company model with its information, and a contacts model, with belongs to my company (also each company has only one contact), and I''d like for the user to fill in

html parser / assertions in a model
I am using http.get in a model to parse html code returned from a Oracle server. My first try was to use assertions (assert and assert_select) to test and parse the html code. But I have problems including the methods in the model. Have tried both "include" and copy/paste to get assertion methods into my model. Works as a model, but I get load errors when I am using the model from a

Designing An Application (UML, Class Diagrams)
Hi Is there any freeware anybody would recommend for showing database models and how they relate to each other? I''m picking up an app another developer left in a mess and I''m trying to sort it out. Diagrams would be a great help. Suggestions? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. To post to this

Did DHH have a suit on?
So I''m wondering about the origin of "ActiveRecord" and "ActionPack" and the like in Rails. I''ve always thought that perhaps DHH found himself in a suit one day (maybe he had to attend a friend''s wedding or something), and as long as he had the suit on, decided to lapse into a one of the barely lucid frenzies that Marketing people are prone to when

Hello all, I''m new to rSpec but after reading a couple of tutorials I''ve become enamored. Anyway, I am at minute 42 of the rSpec basics screencast ( peepcode.com) and I''m having the following error running autotest w/rSpec: D:\ruby\projects\forecaster>autotest loading autotest/rails_rspec c:\ruby\bin\ruby -rrubygems -e "require ''redgreen''"

Conditionally adding a link to a form -- how?
I''ve got two entities created by scaffolding: Expense & Vendor In Expense#new there''s a form with a Vendors-drop-down and a NewVendor- button. The latter button brings up Vendor#new. The Create button in Vendor#new brings up Vendor#show with Edit & Back links. I want to append a third link conditionally to Vendor#show: if the Expense#new form led to the Vendor#show

Windows new installation - Always problems
I would like to know if there is a way to ''package'' an application with all the associated gems and ship it to a new server and having it to "just work" in a Windows environment. Although I have never done it I know that Rails can be frozen into the application. I am wondering if I can do the same thing with other gems. I have found this

"Not Implemented" doesn''t show
I''m going through Peepcode''s Rspec Basics for an overview. He''s just doing a simple spec: class PeepCode end describe PeepCode do it "should be awsome" do end end So running spec spec/simple_spec.rb should produce according to his screen cast: 1 example, 0 failures, 1 not implemented but I only recieve: 1 example, 0 failures Also spec

Which RoR to run on Mac OS X for a particular RoR app.
I am extremely new to RoR, I am. I am slowly but surely learning Ruby and the Rails concepts but the environment is confusing. I have an application that was written for my company in RoR. It is on a ubuntu server that is going to be shut down. I want to move the app to my two Macs (one Leopard and one Snow Leopard). We want to keep the app to demo a business concept but it can run locally
