moved from ruby 1.8.6 to 1.8.7 and "We're sorry, but something went wrong."
I''m a windows user, and I was using ruby 1.8.6 installer over at RubyInstaller.org. All was working well, but I decided to give ruby 1.8.7 a try. I uninstalled 1.8.6, downloaded and installed ruby 1.8.7 from rubyinstaller, reinstalled rails and all of my gems, and copied over sqlite3.def and sqlite3.dll to the Ruby/bin. I then my start my server (just using webrick for now, same as

We're sorry, but something went wrong.
Great. I''m in the development environment and that is the error message I get?! What good does that do me? I''m trying to follow along with the examples in AWDWR(3rd.), and I have this method in a store controller: private def find_cart Cart.new end That works fine, except that every request(initiated by clicking on an ''add to cart'' button) will

help me understand migrations movie
I''m somewhat of a newbie - played with recent versions of rails a few mths ago, but have decided to start from scratch with 1.0. I want to build my new db as much as possible with migrations, so I watched DHH''s migrations movie from rubyonrails.org. A few things confuse me: 1. He generates the model ("post") before running rake db_schema_dump. Is that necessary or

subversion 1.6.9 and sqlite 3.6.22
I'm in the process of setting up subversion and since the version packages with C5 is, shall we say, showing its age, I've built an updated version. In order to do that I had to upgrade sqlite from the default 3.3.6 (which the current subversion will not build with) and I went with 3.6.22. Has anyone else had any experience with whether or not that breaks anything? I'm a little

Can't push to Heroku
I wanna push my application straight from Github to Heroku. Everything goes through until it hits the installation of the gems. It can''t install the SQLite3 (local DB). I know Heroku doesn''t use SQLite but I didn''t expect this problem. The error messages recommended installing a version of SQLite3 (v1.3.6) which I did but it keeps on complaining :(. Any workaround?

Fastes database server for...
Hi, I''m currently building a small rails application that needs to store web traffic information. Similar to google analytics and clicky. (but simpler) It needs to store refer domains and visitors. Integration goes through a small javascript snippet. My question is: What database server is the fastest and should I use for this app? I was thinking about SQLlite. Thanks for your time,

"We're sorry, but something went wrong." from RoR app
Hi All, "We''re sorry, but something went wrong." is the message I got when I started up an RoR app in the environment: Rails 2.3.5 Ruby 1.8.6 WinXP-Pro/SP3 Firefox 3.6 MySQL 5.0.37-community-nt Mongrel The app under development was working fine until I (stupidly) thought I needed to upgrade MySQL to 5.1.44. I took the precaution of MySQL-dumping the development db before

rails, passenger, and images
Just switched over to passenger for development and production for my rails app. Liking it so far. My problem is my image_links, stylesheet_tag_links, and javascript_tag_links are all adding "http://localhost:3000 to the generated links. I got around the stylesheet and js links by not using the helpers. I can access my all of my assets directly via http://dating.local/stylesheets/all.css,

[Tip] Introspection to determine if a column may be null
I still want to get this into Rails for all connection adaptors, but for now I''ve hacked my own addition on for just PostgreSQL. The following code extends every Column object returned by MyModel.columns to support a new #required? method, which indicates if the column may or may not be null. The following is a huge hack - suggestions on a cleaner way to add this functionality

Mongrel hangs, consumes all CPU on shutdown
Hi, I''m doing development with Mongrel 1.0.1 on Ruby 1.8.4 / OS X 10.4.10, and I''ve found that often when I shut down my server with ^C, it hangs for a while, gobbling up all CPU. Sometimes it stops after a few seconds, sometimes it''s run for several minutes at least. This happens across all the apps I develop on, but it seems to hang longer after

Story adapter and SQLite Was:What command to run all stories?
Hi, by switching to MySQL from SQLite, it fixed the problem. I ran rdebug on it and it is trying to call I ActiveRecord::Base.connection.begin_db_transaction. from ActiveRecordSafetyListener.scenario_started. I don''t think SQLLite likes transactions. R & MySQL (Databases)
Dear R-helpers, Considering that a substantial part of analysis is related data manipulation, I'm just wondering if I should do the basic data part in a database server (currently I have the data in .txt file). For this purpose, I am planning to use MySQL. Is MySQL a good way to go about? Are there any anticipated problems that I need to be aware of? Considering, that many users here use
