Malformed XML if LIBGUESTFS_HV is defined.
I was going to post this as a patch, but I realize the patch is just working around an actual bug in the libvirt backend [not in libvirt]. Anyway, posting it here so we don't forget about it. Rich.

Varying as.Date performance
R-devel, The performance of as.Date differs by a large degree between one of my machines with glibc 2.3.2: > system.time(x <- as.Date(rep("01-01-2005", 100000), format = "%m-%d-%Y")) [1] 1.17 0.00 1.18 0.00 0.00 and a comparable machine with glibc 2.3.3: > system.time(x <- as.Date(rep("01-01-2005", 100000), format = "%m-%d-%Y")) [1] 31.20

Disabling XML character escaping for to_xml
Currently, it appears to_xml will automatically escape any entities into their corresponding &XXX representation. There''s a piece in the documentation that says "If $KCODE is set to u and encoding set to UTF8, then escaping will NOT be performed." Unfortunately, this doesn''t appear to be the case. Even after following the docs and ensuring that default_charset is

Loading xml document using Nokogiri and retrieving CDATA element
This is an extension of my last post (problems with REXML) which has me looking to Nokogiri again. The reason I am not using Nokogiri is I can not seem to find a way to get CDATA out of a Nokogiri document. First, can you tell me if I am loading my document correctly, because when I call my_document.to_xml, I only get one line back: (rdb:1) test_file = Nokogiri::XML(mismo_xml_file)

Harmonizing JSON/XML serialization
The way Rails handles root nodes in JSON and XML serialization is inconsistent. This has been discussed before: https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994/tickets/2584-232-activeresource-json-doesnt-send-parameters-with-root-node This seems mostly taken care of with ActiveModel::Base.include_root_in_json, especially if/when it ends up in ActiveResource. However, there is also the issue of how

How to deserialize an array from XML
Hi, to serialize an array to xml we can use: an_array = [ 1, 2, 3] an_array.to_xml But to I can''t find a way to convert back XML to array. I didn''t find a method Array.from_xml like Hash.from_xml. Any ideas? Thanks, Gustavo -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. To post to this group, send email

paste ?
Dear friends. I've made a very simple procedure to make Bland-Altman plots and it works OK except for the inability to take a variate as argument in annotation. I'm sure it is a very simple error, so if you have 5 seconds please tell me. Best wishes Troels bland <- function (x) #accepts two columns { mn <- 0.5*(x[,1]+x[,2]) diff <- x[,1]-x[,2]

XML from Builder without the to_s element
Hi All, I''m trying to return XML from a Rails view of an object I built up using Builder::XmlMarkup and I find an annoying side effect is that I get an extra <to_xml/> or <to_s/> element back which makes REXML hiccup thinking I''m adding a recond root element when I try to parse the return. How can I return the XML without this last element? Thanks, Vince

Basis of fisher.test
I want to ascertain the basis of the table ranking, i.e. the meaning of "extreme", in Fisher's Exact Test as implemented in 'fisher.test', when applied to RxC tables which are larger than 2x2. One can summarise a strategy for the test as 1) For each table compatible with the margins of the observed table, compute the probability of this table conditional on the

discrepancy between R and Splus lm.influence() functions for family=Gamma(link=identity)
Hello, I am looking for an explanation and/or fix for a discrepancy in the behaviour of the R lm.influence() function [ version R 1.5.0 (2002-04-29) ] and the same function in Splus [ Splus version 5.1 release 1, running on SGI IRIX 6.2]. The discrepancy is of concern because I am migrating some Splus scripts to R and need to ensure consistency of results. Specifically, when I fit a glm()

extracting values from txt file that follow user-supplied quote
useRs- I'm attempting to scan a more than 1Gb text file and read and store the values that follow a specific key-phrase that is repeated multiple time throughout the file. A snippet of the text file I'm trying to read is attached. The text file is a dumping ground for various aspects of the performance of the model that generates it. Thus, the location of information I'm wanting

Building and configuring nut 2.6.0 - documentation issue?
This morning I finished building and configuring nut 2.6.0 on OpenBSD 4.8, and it is running fine. While I was in the config files, I noticed what looks like it may be a discrepancy between the config file commetns and the configure script default. uspd.conf has the following comment: # STATEPATH <path> # STATEPATH /var/run/nut # # Tell upsd to look for the driver state sockets in
