Automatted Getter/Setter
Hey.. So I have a model that has a lot of number fields. Each of these go through a process when read in and read out to add/remove commas (between every three numbers) to make them more readable. The getter I currently have is like this: def sale_price Listing.insert_commas(read_attribte (:sale_price)) end and the setter is: def sale_price=(price) write_attribute(:saleprice,

has_many :through, collection<<(object) and duplicates.
Hi, I''m facing a strange behavior in Rails with the has_many association and the generated collection<<(object, ...) method that comes along. I''ve got an Object model and a Tag model, plus a taggings table to join the two together. On Object, I set these associations: has_many :taggings, :as => :taggable, :dependent => :destroy has_many :tags,

Keytab extraction for tshark analyze
Hi, i'm trying to analyze kerberos traffic using tshark (Samba 4.8.1 on Centos 7). I can't figure out how to extract keytab with password/keys. I follow precisely the instructions at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Keytab_Extraction But it seems like I only get slot, kvno and principal, can't find a way to get passwords or keys. Any idea someone ? ktutil: rkt decode.keytab ktutil:

My game has started freezing up when using Wine.
I downloaded Wine 1.2 a few days ago so that I could play a game called Wonderland Online. It worked fine for one day. The 2nd day my update manager asked to install updates and since installing them I can't play my game. I run Ubuntu 10.10. As I stated I installed Wine 1.2 and it worked fine with Wonderland Online that first day. (www.wl.igg.com is the website for the game that I play. I

post.author_id or post.author ? Rails bug?
Hi all! I have just found something very strange. Let''s imagine that I have posts that belong to an author. If I do the following (the order doesn''t matter): apost.author = Author.find(3) apost.author_id = 2 I get a post that has both an :author_id => 2 attribute, and an associated Author with id 3. Then, post.save, and the author_id in the DB is 3. I think that this

Model setters, override attribute=(attribute)?
Hi, I have a model similar Basket shown below. If customer_type is set then it should also set customer to nil. Likewise, if I set customer, it should inspect the customer_type attached to the customer and set accordingly within Basket. However implementing it as below doesn''t seem to work. Am I missing a better way to achieve this? I had also considered using a before_save

Under Rails 2.3.2 using a completely brand new project, I have 2 models: class Author < ActiveRecord::Base # name:string end class Book < ActiveRecord::Base # title:string belongs_to :author # author_id end And a simple test where i create a Book with an Author using the belongs_to and then update the foreign key directly: require ''test_helper'' class BookTest

Dead horse: validates_associated
Regarding validates_associated... Let''s say I have: article belongs_to author But for whatever reason, I want an article to also be written anonymously and therefore not require an author. Then I have: Article: belongs_to :author validates_associated :author But I DON''T have validates_presence_of. What I want to do is validate that an author is valid --if it is

write_attribute trouble
Can anyone clarify something for me? I''ve been having a hard time with write_attribute. If I do (for instance in a callback): write_attribute(:user, user) Is obj.user_id set automatically too? And viceversa, if I do: write_attribute(:user_id, user.id) Does that set obj.user for me? Doesn''t seem like it''s doing that for me. Anyone understands exactly what

belongs_to. Association methods don't pass data to DB
Hi. I have a problem with the association methods which passed to a model through a belongs_to declaration. Here''s an illustration of the issue: GIVEN: # migration class CreateArticlesAndAuthorsTables < ActiveRecord::Migration   def self.up     create_table :articles do |t|       t.text     :title       t.integer :author_id     end     create_table :authors do |t|       t.text

ImageMagick and EXIF Data
Hi there, I''m writing a little application that parses an image file and extracts the camera settings from the file (the EXIF data) and saves all the fields to the database. The idea is that after awhile people will be able to search based on camera make, model, lens settings, etc... and all the pictures that meet those requirements will be displayed. The picture is stored on the file

suggest for "ambiguous column" when JOIN associated tables
Today I face with incorrect behavior in ActiveRecord. It take place when I try to use :include parameter for .find method. Where are two typical cases: 1.
