It has been installed a long while now so I can't quite remember whats going on but basically I remember I wrote the init script my self and the app is enabled as a service which chkconfig to run at system levels 3,

Deploying to a staging server using Capistrano: how to start up BackgrounDRb?
Hi. I am using BackgrounDRb to process thumbnails and upload to S3 - things are hunky-dory in development (thumbs are generated, these are uploaded to S3, the metadata is saved to trhe DB, and I get a nice status page updated by periodic calls via ask_status), but when I tried to deploy to our staging server and stop/start BackgrounDRb via Capistrano, things blew up - well, not exactly,

rails command version pegging?
Hello, Is it possible to declare the version of Rails used with the seminal "rails /path/to/my_app" command? For example, I now have 1.2.1 and 1.1.6 installed on my machine. If I run "rails my_app" I get 1.2.1 produced skeleton code. Is there a way to get 1.1.6 results? Regards, Andy Koch --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this

First hit on app takes a long time
So, I''ve deployed my first rails app, however I''m the only one hitting it for now. I''ve noticed that the first time I hit the app after some long period, it takes a really long time to respond (2-3 seconds). After that, it''s very fast. At first, I thought it might be my VPS "waking up" from some sleep state, but Rails does log the long load time

Question About Scaffolding for My First Rails App
When using ruby to generate scaffolding, is there an easy way to add features that would be useful for keeping track of has_many and belongs_to relations? For example, suppose I have the following: Users Sites Pages Modules Each user has many pages, each site has many pages, each page has many modules, and also the belongs_to relation holds in the opposite order. I''m using the

Create a helper for models and views?
Hi! If I have a method that is useful in both models and in views, where would be the appropriate place to put it? The method in question just takes two dates as strings, tries to parse them and returns all dates in the range between them. It also takes care of the issues when the dates are badly formatted etc etc.. This method is being used in several models (so a simple class method in

Migration or model first
I sort of asked this the other day but with no replies. I''m new to rails btw. Question: Is there a preferred way to create migrations ? What I''ve noticed is if I create a model first , it sets up the skelton of the migration. If I create a migration file and then do the model it attempt to create a migration file and not overide the one already in place. It seems to make sense

Uninitialized Constants in Scaffolds
I''ve just got the solution to a problem I''d been having. It looks like it''s quite common, so here goes: When creating a scaffold page (using <tt>script/generate scaffold ...</tt>) if you look at the pages it makes (through the server, http:\\127.0.0.1:3000...) all pages work except LIST, which complains of Uninitialized Constant [your model name]
