how to make ZenTest autotest run whenever my tests change
Railsters:
Despite Rails being the only Web platform designed for TDD, a lot of its test
infrastructure is still "cargo cult" - imitating other test rigs instead of
understanding their principles.
Most importantly, tests should run instantly. There''s no excuse for breaking
this rule, and if you invent a platform that can''t obey it then you are doing
something

preload test data from factory_girl
Is there a way to preload common data made by factory_girl to speed up
tests instead of recreating these common data at the beginning of
every test. For example, I want to have 10 users premade at the
beginning of every test.
I found this http://agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/factory_data_preloader
But the page says that this plugin does not "play nice" with
autotest. But I use

RSpec / Cucumber painfully slow Rails 3 OSX
I am working on my first Rails BDD project with extensive tests since
starting out with Rails a few years ago.
Running RSpec or Cucumber is really slow. I''m using Rails 3 and RSpec
2.
To run one model spec with only 5 tests takes almost 1 minute! When it
finishes it says it took only 0.9 seconds to run the actual test. So
obviously it is loading the environment that takes so long. I just

I'm having trouble with Routes II
I have narrowed my problem in a prior topic (I''m having trouble with
Routes) to the fact that I get the problem, below only when I reload my
page. Clicking on links to go to the pages I want ... I seem not to
have problems.
Given that it seems to be a reload that is generating an "/undefined"
path somewhere ... can anyone suggest what I should be looking for to
fix the

Rails 3, Rspec 2, Autotest
Trying to set up a Rails 3 project with RSpec and Autotest. I followed
these steps exactly:
http://gist.github.com/365816
But when I start up autotest, I get:
$ autotest
loading autotest/rails
style: Rails
instead of:
$ autotest
loading autotest/rails_rspec2
style: RailsRspec2
And autotest doesn''t seem to do anything. Any idea what''s happening?
I''m using Ruby

False Positives and Autotest on New Folders
False Positives
I just discovered how easy it was to create a false positive when I, trying
my first RSpec test, did this:
ob.should eql?(''foo'')
instead of:
ob.should eql(''foo'')
or:
ob.should == ''foo''
As far as I can see, this is roughly equivalent to:
ob.should false
Neither eql?(''foo'') nor false causes the spec

autotest with Growl not working
Hi I''m new and using Ruby on Rails 3 but when I run $ autotest nothing
happens (I have growl installed). If I run $ rspec spec then I get the
''Finished in 0.07253 seconds seconds 2 example, 0 failures'' message
I have the following gems installed for autotest (checked via $ gem
list):
autotest (4.3.2)
autotest-fsevent (0.2.4, 0.2.2)
autotest-growl (0.2.9, 0.2.4)

changes in rspec''s trunk and autotest
This applies to anyone using rspec''s trunk from >= 3220 with ZenTest <= 3.7.2.
Anyone else, feel free to move on....
The next release of ZenTest, coming soon, includes some changes that
improve the relationship between Autotest, it''s subclasses (like those
in rspec) and .autotest, the file that you can use to plug into
autotest''s hooks to extend/modify

autotest displays no output
Hey, I''m trying to configure autotest with rspec on cygwin but something is
going wrong.
I made a very simple testing environment with a user.rb and user_spec.rb
file. Rspec works fine, but autotest outputs nothing - it just stays here,
idle. ^C doesn''t display anything more.
I can see it''s running because I added require ''autotest/snarl'' in my

autotest stop working, 1.0.9?
My autotest runs but when I make changes to a spec it doesn''t reload.
I checked another application I was building that had 1.0.9 but it was
reloading fine.
How would I debug a problem such as autotest not reloading?

Why has the --color gone from my life?
Hi all,
Running on OSX 10.5.3, Latest Rspec trunk, Rspec rails trunk, latest
autotest gem and rails 2.1
I''ve lost my colour output in autotest.
rake spec gives colour output, but autotest gives me black and white.
It was working a little bit before, I think I upgraded to the latest
versions of everything to get all the textmate snippets talking and being
friendly to one another again

Rspec autotest error
Hi all,
I tried testing with Rspec for first time, following a tutorial.
"rspec spec/" works fine but when I try ''autotest'' it gives me the
error message below. I also made a gist about it: https://gist.github.com/779265
It seems like a redgreen or ZenTest error. I''m using Ubuntu10, Rails3,
Ruby 1.9 and RVM. Any help is appriciated, thanks in advance,

AutoTest / Rspec - "stack level too deep"
Hello,
I''m running AutoTest with Rspec on a Rails application.
Every 20 or so runs I get "stack level too deep" on one particular
controller stub.
Ex.
controller.stub!(:login).and_return(true)
This particular line is in a before block of a certain describe block. The
strange thing is, every single spec in this file fails on that one line,
even the specs in other describe

Spork + Autotest Failure
Hi folks, I''m going through railstutorial.org and so I apologize if
I''m hitting the wrong group here and would appreciate any appropriate

I''ve set up Spork + Autotest as per Michael''s instructions in

Essentially by doing the following (using rvm & I''m

using RSpec''s trunk in non-rails projects w/ Autotest
I believe for rails projects you can put rspec''s code repos into
vendor/plugins, and autotest will automatically use the rspec binary
in that directory, and not the gem installed.
Is there an easy way to do this for non-rails projects? There are a
few advancements on trunk which I would like to take advantage of.
Tips welcome ; ).

rspec and autotest
If you want to use rspec-0.9.2 with autotest (ZenTest-3.5.2), you''ll

rspec with autotest on a windows machine
Hello all,
I''m new to rSpec but after reading a couple of tutorials I''ve become
enamored. Anyway, I am at minute 42 of the rSpec basics screencast (
peepcode.com) and I''m having the following error running autotest w/rSpec:

loading autotest/rails_rspec
c:\ruby\bin\ruby -rrubygems -e "require ''redgreen''"

Solution for autospec not working
Hello,
I have noticed that, since version 1.1.4, autotest/autospec does not run any
of my specs. After getting a hint from
http://b.logi.cx/2008/10/9/non-auto-spec, I dove a bit deeper into the code
and found that spec is no longer being run by ruby.
I monkey-patched Autotest::Rspec in my .autotest file so that spec is again
executed (using code taken from version 1.1.4). autospec is now
