How do you create one session cookie for multiple subdomains
I am using the restful authentication plugin and am always prompted to
login if a different subdomain is accessed. I have found a couple rails
"solutions", but none of them seem to work:
# development.rb
1. ActionController::CgiRequest::DEFAULT_SESSION_OPTIONS[:session_key]
= ".localhost"
2. ActionController::Base.session_options[:key] = ".localhost"

Mongrel 0.3.18, rails 1.1.6 and cookies
I''ve run into an issue with my rails application being unable to
properly set cookies on Mongrel 0.3.18. If I run the simplified code
below in Mongrel 3.14.4, both cookies are properly sent to and saved
by the browser. With the same code in 0.3.18, only the auth_token
cookie is created (if I switch them, only the userid as it will only
properly create the first cookie in the list.)

Cookies & gsub ?
I''m looking to store the current params into a/some cookie(s).
This works:
@params.each_pair do |this_index, this_param|
cookies[this_index] = this_param
end
Except, I get session-only cookies. This doesn''t work:
@params.each_pair do |this_index, this_param|
cookies[this_index] = {
:value => this_param,
:expires => 30.days.from_now
}
end

rspec and cookies
Hello
can anyone tell me how to test cookies using rspec? specifically, I''d like
to be able to set a cookie before a get/post request and also to test the
cookies which have been set by a get/post request
I know I can use cookies[:name] = ''value'' to set a cookie but how would I
set expiry information on such a cookie? when i try to pass a hash {:value

request.session_options broken?
I''m implementing simple "remember me" functionality for logging in
users with Rails 2.3.4. I''m trying to set the session expiration date
for some time in the future. After googling around a bit I found this
post which seems to address my problem:

My modifications to request.session_options are being ignored.

Working with sessions in beast forum
Hey,
I''m designing an app which displays the events near a user in RoR. I''m
using the beat forum to facilitate user management/sessions/etc. I''ve
edited the sessions table in the Beast database to contain a
"session_location" value and what I''d like to do is to set this to the
users location when they log in. This would allow them to change their

Date magic?
Hi.
When I read Dave and Davids excellent book "Agile Web Development with
Rails" the first time, I was particularly impressed with the following
statement:
1.day.from_now
It was used in a test class to set the date of tomorrow dynamically. Since
it was enclosed in in ERb tags, I assumed this was a normal ruby statement,
but when I tried it in my irb, i get the following error:

RailsCron: Trigger one time
Hi Kyle,
Thanks for your help so far. Now that I have it up and running, I''ve some
behavior questions.
I want to trigger an event just one time at a future time. I''m using some of
your sample code to try this, but the behavior of some combinations of start,
every, and finish behave in some unpredictable ways.

Problem with Sessions
Hi,
Using Netbeans 6.7.1,
Rails Gem Version 2.3.2
MySQL Server 5.1
I am currently doing the depot application from the pragmatic programmer
book (agile web development with rails) everything has been fine up until
the point of creating sessions. I know they are using an earlier version of
Ruby and the gems version is 2.2.2. As soon as I put the necessary code in
the website no longer works and

Rails 3.2 session id nil until next request
Posted this on stack overflow earlier today here<http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13673969/rails-3-2-session-id-nil-until-next-request>,
I really either don''t know what I''m doing, or I don''t understand how
sessions are supposed to work!
I''m connecting to rails from an Air app and communicating with JSON only.
When the client sends a login request,

Sessions
I''m an experienced programmer, but new to Rails.
I would like to echo an unanswered question I''ve recently read
elsewhere.
Can any recommend an overview of get/post, cookies, sessions, etc.,
and how Ruby on Rails interacts with all of this?
I''m interested in understanding how to harden a Rails application

RailsCron: ''every'' in background

acts_as_solr plugin fate?
Just wanted to see if I was using the latest acts_as_solr plugin, but
the URL <http://acts_as_solr.railsfreaks.com/> takes me to a GoDaddy
domain parking page.
Anyone know what''s happened to railsfreaks, and more particularly
this plugin?

Problem processing text file after uploading
I''ve got a web-app currently partially working. The user uploads a .txt,
.docx or .doc file to the server.
Currently the model handles those files, saves some metadata (the
extention and orig filename) then saves the file to the hard drive. Next
it converts the doc and docx files to plain text and saves the output to
a txt file.
My problem is I want to copy the plain text contents of
