index.erb vs rhtml
I am a total Ruby/RoR n00b having just started reading the ''Ruby on Rails Bible'' book two days ago. I''ve been trying to work out through the introductory ''Your first ruby on rails application'' section, but I''ve run into problems already! The book goes on about creating the view templates and naming them with the *.html.erb extension, but I get

Simple speech recognition for driving IVR - "press or say one".
Briefly: I want to be able to have "press or say (number)", with Asterisk listening for a spoken number, but accepting a DTMF digit, too. I'm posting everything I found so far, here, partly to show working, but also in case anyone else finds it useful. So, moving on.... This looked hopeful for a moment until I realised that it doesn't do DTMF:

Can anyone advise me on running R and Rstudio on an AWS virtual machine
This is a funny one and if it's off topic here, I would be grateful if I could be guided to where it would be on topic. I have done some searching but not very successfully so far. Situation: I am doing some analyses of data that are stored in a postgres database in the AWS cloud and using the RJDBC and dplyr packages for the specifics of yanking the data to my own machine. They work and

[PLEASE HELP] Trying to install wine in Amazon AWS EC2
I looked everywhere for information on how to install wine in the Amazon AWS cloud. Can somebody please point me to some working binaries and which AMI to use? And possibly some installation instructions? I'm just trying to run some simple Windows console applications (from MS-DOS)... nothing fancy. But wine just doesn't want to install or run in AWS. Surely many people have

Asterisk Bible?
Hi Folks, Is there a generally accepted Asterisk bible for current versions? I poked around the forums and there didn't seem to be a real consensus, and there are lots of options out there. I need something that focuses on Asterisk dialplans and config files, not a linux primer. I'm looking for dead-tree rather than online documentation. Thanks, Tim

Amazon implements Samba Active Directory in the cloud !
Dan Shearer pointed out the following (thanks Dan): https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-aws-directory-service/ "The New AWS Directory Service Today we are introducing the AWS Directory Service to address these challenges! This managed service provides two types of directories. You can connect to an existing on-premises directory or you can set up and run a new, Samba-based directory in

Amazon AWS question
We are running load capacity tests using Amazon AWS configurations. For the tests, we are basically scaling up calls to a second Asterisk box. First box that is calling the second box plays music on hold for 60 seconds, then hangs up the call. My initial thought was jitter problems, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I believe I found the cause while looking at the asterisk logs. I am

Official AWS AMIs: eu-central-1 support?
Hello all, and thank you very much for the Centos 7 HVM AMI [1], greatly appreciated! This AMI does not work on the newly launched AWS Frankfurt region (eu-central-1). Any plans for fixing that? According to the AWS announcement [2], "The Region supports all sizes of T2, M3, C3, R3, and I2 instances". (We'll be running the CentOS 7 HVM AMI going forward, but looks like none of

Adding an 'official' CentOS image to the Amazon EC2 (Electronic Compute Cloud)
I'm starting to use the EC2 cloud (as are others) and noticed that all the available CentOS images seem to be of dubious origin. I think it would further the reputation and popularity of CentOS if it were represented in an official way. In case people aren't aware, when you create an AWS (Amazon Web Services) account there's a management console that shows a list of available images.
