syntax for number_with_precision
I normally use number_with_precision in my views and I''ve never had a problem. Now however, I need to use it in my controller because my Ajax method is calling the controller and the controller will return values to it which will be displayed in the span of my html document. In short, what am I doing wrong in the statement below? I need the ''bid'' to be formatted

Problem in number_helper.rb ?
Hello, Today I noticed that the number_to_currency helper didn''t work anymore (it just returned the numeric value, without any currency). I tracked down the error and saw that editing line 89 ( number_to_currency method) as follows solved the problem : Old piece of code : begin format.gsub(/%n/, number_with_precision(number, :precision => precision, :delimiter =>

Formatting values of numbers using text_field
Anyone have a quick solution on how to format a number in a text_field tag? <% text_field "price", "amount" %> returns 100.0 and it would be nice if it showed 100.00 Of course, number_with_precision works nicely, but how do you make that work with text_field? I thought maybe overriding the getter in the model. However, this means I would have to bring the helper

Does HABTM support non "id" FKs?
Quick question. Say I have a geographical database with counties and zip codes where counties have and belong to many zip codes. zip_codes (id, zip_code) counties (id, name) When I create the association table, the Rails way says to do the following: counties_zip_codes (county_id, zip_code_id). However, given that zip_codes.zip_code is itself a candidate key, I would much prefer to do the

model validates twice in tests, produces duplicate errors
In my unit tests for my User model, I''m testing some validation cases. What is really strange, and driving me crazy, is that in the unit tests, it seems like the save method is causing my validations to execute twice, and produce duplicate error messages. This is making my tests fail (because I''m checking for the number of errors that I expect). In the web browser, only one error

Localizing attributes when using I18n
Currently I''m developing a multilingual app on rails 2.2. I liked very much the idea of Xavier Defrang to provide a locale-aware accessor for the fields that needs a translation: http://defrang.com/articles/2005/12/02/playing-with-rails-i18n I modified code a little to make it work with rails 2.2: def self.localize(*attribute_names) attribute_names.each do |attribute_name|

acts_as_rateable in Beast
I''m trying to implement acts_as_rateable to my Beast installation to give users the option to rate posts (like reddit). I chose acts_as_rateable as it supposedly easily allows reddit-type voting but I''m having some problems setting it up and the documentation seems outdated. rails 2.3 nested forms with has_many through checkboxes
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to combine the new nested forms in rails 2.3 with a has_many through relationship via checkboxes. Basically I have a page model, a page_category model and a category_items join table. Pages have many page categories through category items. The category_items table is polymorphic so i can use it for other models who need categories (maybe this is

Form helpers and overloaded methods - help!
Can someone explain why form helpers appear to bypass any model methods I override for fields that are bound to database fields? It would be great if someone could tell me how to force the form field, etc to call the method instead of looking at the database / attributes collection. Let''s say I have a column called ''price'' in my database table "books"
