where to put code for my own paginator ?
I had to make my own pagination class in SQL Server. What I am
wondering is where is a good place to put the code so that every
controller and template can have access to it ?
Right now I have put it in application.rb, the controller base class.
This seems to work well, I did a project last summer where I put stuff
in the lib directory. The only problem with that is that if you change
any code at

Re: Stubbing out ThinkingSphinx for Rspec
Thanks Wolas!
Sorry if this seems like a newbie question, what am I supposed replace
the stubbed_method_name with?
Also, I came across the only thread on the Interwebs which seems to
cover this topic - it''s over a year old, but I think they have a
solution which could work around the issues you pointed out. However, I
couldn''t work out how to get their subbing approach to

Positive experiences with Xapian
Hi Guys,
I just wanted to take a moment to give some positive feedback regarding my
experiences with Xapian recently.
I've been doing a fair amount of research into search engines recently, as
we have some fairly specific requirements with what we're attempting to do
with them. Long story short, after a few weeks of playing around with just
about everything under the sun (or at least,

scaling full text indexing(ferret vs solr vs hyperstraier)
Hi,
Does any have experience scaling full text search in RoR?
Right now our project is running a simple setup with ferret and
acts_as_ferret. We are thinking about deploying a feature that would
send 50x more search requests.
So we probably have to rethink our solution. How do services like
search.twitter.com (the former Summize) use?
Or in what direction should I look?

Stubbing Paperclip calls to Amazon S3 (for Rspec)
Would anyone happen to know how to stub a call to S3 from Paperclip?
I''ve searched every where and no one seems to have posted anything about
this. I''ve done very little in the way of spec''ing dependencies on
external services, so any ideas on how to do this with Paperclip & S3
would be most appreciated. I''m happy with stubbing out Thinking Sphinx -

Using LIKE
I''ve heard that using LIKE is very slow, but I see it being used a lot
in examples, blogs etc. Is it really that bad? Since Rails doesn''t
directly support Fulltext search, this is the easiest way to get
searching done, right? Or are there any other easier ways? I''m using
acts_as_indexed right now, but it still doesn''t do what LIKE does.

Need some suggestions on search strategy
I need some suggestions for the best way to implement search for my
client. They have several models (project, request, usage, etc.) that
they need to search for. Each model will have its own search page
with a form that is similar to the one shown for editing. So the
search needs to be across model fields and the results are limited to
the model.
Some of the model fields will be for

Ultrasphinx search error... Invalid class name
I''ve got Ultrasphinx powering the search on my Rails app. It''s working
with all of my models when they''re first indexed, but then, after what
seems like a random amount of time, I''ll get the following error on
just *one* of my models:
search#show (Ultrasphinx::UsageError) "Invalid class name \"Playlist

I set up this model like so:

FULLTEXT search in MySQL on rails
I tried adding a FULLTEXT search index to a table of mine in MySQL,
only to discover that the InnoDB table format doesn''t seem to support
this feature. Switching to the MyISAM table type seemed to work, but
I seem to have some recollection that ActiveRecord transactions aren''t
fully atomic on MyISAM tables. Is this true or am I just remembering
wrong? If so, does anyone have

Using Migrations to Build a MySQL FULLTEXT index?
Can anyone point me to the proper syntax to build a FULLTEXT MySQL

1.1 ruby schema breaks MySQL FULLTEXT index
If you used MySQL FULLTEXT indexes and just upgraded to Rails 1.1, watch
out for this one. Rails 1.1 now defaults to Ruby as your schema format.
So instead of development-structure.sql, Rake will use schema.rb.
That''s portable and good stuff overall but there is a slight
compatibility issue. Ruby schema doesn''t know how to do FULLTEXT index
syntax for MySQL.
To work around it,

non-searchable columns, normalization
Hello. I am new to Ferret. I am using it through Acts as Ferret.
Let''s say I have such a table, and all columns are indexed using the
default behavior provided by acts_as_ferret:
ARTICLES
-id
-year
-body
[1] A typical request will be "select id from articles where KEYWORDS
% body". Will id be indexed for fulltext searching? clearly the
fulltext index on id will never be

Documentation doesn't get updated
Hi Tanya,
Last time I noticed a problem with clang-tools-extra docs you could help
solving them. If someone else is taking care of this part of the
infrastructure now, please redirect appropriately.
It looks like docs generated from rst (for LLVM, Clang and
clang-tools-extra) don't get updated at the moment. They stopped updating
somewhere between r353327

Dovecot frequently full-text reindexes the whole maildir
Hi!
I'm using Dovecot 2.2.13 (Debian Jessie package 1:2.2.13-12~deb8u1) on
my personal mail server (the address I'm writing from is on this
server).
I use Maildirs, I have fts + fts_squat enabled, and I have a problem
with it for a long time - dovecot seems to not update the index always
"incrementally".
Yesterday I've finally made a test by telneting to imap port and
