Adding an 'official' CentOS image to the Amazon EC2 (Electronic Compute Cloud)
I'm starting to use the EC2 cloud (as are others) and noticed that all the available CentOS images seem to be of dubious origin. I think it would further the reputation and popularity of CentOS if it were represented in an official way. In case people aren't aware, when you create an AWS (Amazon Web Services) account there's a management console that shows a list of available images.

[PLEASE HELP] Trying to install wine in Amazon AWS EC2
I looked everywhere for information on how to install wine in the Amazon AWS cloud. Can somebody please point me to some working binaries and which AMI to use? And possibly some installation instructions? I'm just trying to run some simple Windows console applications (from MS-DOS)... nothing fancy. But wine just doesn't want to install or run in AWS. Surely many people have

R on amazon's EC2 "cloud"?
Hi All, I was wondering if anybody had experience running R on amazon's ec2 "cloud"? More specifically, has anybody created an "amazon machine image" (AMI) for use with it? I was wondering if there was a quantian type image available as an amazon machine image, maybe running debian or ubuntu? It supports open MPI among other libs which is nice. It would be nice to put

Hi, We all know most people are reporting that Amazon hasn't been helpful at all. A few people say they've received answers, but most are getting smoke screen PR BS. You can vote this up on Slashdot, send the message: SIP Attacks From Amazon EC2 Going Unaddressed: http://bit.ly/bOkNNx Send this message out to Amazon, I am positive that once it reaches the right person, they will do the

AWS/EC2 server selection
Amazon instances are shared resources. I wouldn't want to count on timing or disk throughput, and you can't just ask them to do "ssd" - its a virtual machine! 500 simultaneous recordings is a hefty load, and I would want to know that the underlying hardware is dedicated to the task. Sure you see lots of posts about hosting asterisk and/or freeswitch on EC2. I have done it

AWS/EC2 server selection
Still a shared resource. I don't see the benefit. Even beyond the shared resource bit, with the kind of IO you are likely to be pushing, you will want a decent NAS with lots of spindles and fibre channel to your hosts. j On 03/08/2015 10:51 AM, Jai Rangi wrote: > Digital ocean offers ssd on all the virtual machines. EC2 bootstrap: chicken and egg problem with login as ec2-user and sudoers "requiretty"
Hi, I was previously using an EC2 AMI where i was logging as root, and i could bootstrap nodes. I am now using Amazon AMIs ( http://aws.amazon.com/fr/amazon-linux-ami ) and they require login as ec2-user. The problem is that if i run puppet node bootstrap --login ec2-user, it will detect it and run my install script as with sudo, which is fine, but sudo will not run it because it is configured by

Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Hi Brian, Does "iptables -L" show anything of note? I'm leaving iptables off in this host. Because it's an AWS EC2 host I'm managing the firewall ports using the AWS security groups. [root at ops:~] #service iptables status Firewall is stopped. But still, there's this... [root at monitor1:~] #/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H ops.jokefire.com CHECK_NRPE:

Looking for an image (R 64-bit on Linux 64-bit) on Amazon EC2
I have found an existing image on Amazon EC2 including R. But unfortunately, it is 32-bit R on 32-bit Linux. Does anybody know if there exists an mage (R 64-bit on Linux 64-bit) on Amazon EC2? Or how can I install 64-bit R on my own Linux instance there? Thanks. -- View this message in context:

[Infra announce] : Speeding-up yum updates from inside AWS/EC2
Tomorrow, I intend to push a change to mirrorlist.centos.org nodes that will have a (good) impact to CentOS EC2 instances running from AWS network. Thanks to AWS, sponsoring the required backend infra for this to happen, our mirrorlist nodes will redirect yum/dnf operations internally in the EC2/AWS network. What does that mean for you ? - faster updates (due to Cloudfront caching, and so most

Asterisk on the Cloud With a Click - pre-built Asterisk Amazon EC2 instance
Asterisk-users, Our two-part tutorial explaining how to use VoIP and Asterisk in Amazon?s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) has garnered quite a bit of attention. But due to the time required to complete the many steps needed to get up and running, some of you have asked if it is possible to create a much simpler to install ?pre-built? Asterisk EC2 ?instance.? In short, yes it is. And we?ve

Networking issues with lxc containers in AWS EC2
I've created an EC2 AMI for AWS that essentially represents a CentOS 7 "hypervisor" image. I deploy instances of these in AWS and create an number of libvirt based lxc containers on each of these instances. The containers run fine within a single host and have no problem communicating with themselves as well as with their host, and vice versa. However, containers hosted in one
