layout inheritance
According to "Ruby On Rails", the layout call is suppose to be
inherited: (page 508)
"Subclasses of a controller will use the parent''s layout unless they
override it using the layout directive"
I have a case where this is not working. I have not spent time to
concoct a stand alone test. I wanted to verify that David''s book is
correct first.

dfs/dce and openssh
I searched google and did not find any hits on this being solved.
I want to get ssh so I can the dsa/rsa style password it in an
environment that uses dfs/dce authentication if that is possible (and
it has not already been solved). In other words, I want to be able
to log into a host as a dfs/dce user without typing my password.
Before I dig into the code and trying to do this, I wanted

assert_valid State.first

I see that test_valid is now in

test_valid is designed to be used i ActionController tests only?
I can change my assert_valid(State.first) into assert

After Rails 2.3.2 upgrade: superclass mismatch for class TestCase (TypeError)
I upgraded a working app from rails 2.1 to 2.3.2. Now when I run rake
test:units I get this error: /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/
activesupport-2.3.2/lib/active_support/test_case.rb:17: superclass
mismatch for class TestCase (TypeError)
I generated a new test app and all tests run OK.
For the upgrade I ran rake:update and renamed the class in test_helper
to ActiveSupport::TestCase. Also renamed

in Rails, what is the main (global) scope called?
For example, you see files called
rails/actionpack/lib/action_controller/base.rb
which adds methods and such to the open module ActionController. What
scope is ActionController in? Is it just called the global scope?
Obviously, there is namespace resolution lookup. And a good example of
this is in the Base class of the same file. It references one module
like this: AbstractController::Layouts

Filter Ordering in Edge Rails (Rev 7143)
Filter chaining appears to behave in differently than Rails 1.2.x. It
seems that I''m getting a lot of errors along the lines of:
ActionController::ActionControllerError: filter

@filter=#<ActionController::Filters::ClassMethods::SymbolFilter:

[Rails 3] No route matches error using RSpec even though route DOES match
I''ve recently run into a really weird situation that I''m just not sure
what''s going on here. I''m trying to write a route that will allow
searches to be done via GET requests (generally a good idea since it''s
just retrieving information, helps for links and SEO, etc.), and I
have the route properly set up and can access it in development mode
just fine,

Rails too Active?
I feel the need to protest about a disturbing trend in the vibrant RoR
community - name dilution.
ActiveRecord is called that precisely because it is that. The name come
from Martin Fowler, and it expresses a class which is a database record,
only _active_ - that is with methods & behaviors (unlike a classical
database record, which is completely passive.) If you look in the

Status of Rails.application.routes.recognize_path()
Sorry if this question isn''t really "Ruby on Rails: Core" material. I feel
it is, at least kind-of (also, I first tried asking in "Ruby on Rails: Talk"
to no avail.).
So, while writing a gem (engine) for rails, I found that I needed to have my
app (in a pre-filter) directly query the router. In the "old" days, this was
done using

Help me run rails on apache on Linux Fedora
Hello all,
I am new on the rails list, having signed up today, but I am in
the midst of some sticky business getting rails to go on my linux
system. I am running Fedora Core 4, with Ruby 1.8.4 and Apache 2.0.54.
I have setup the chapter 4 tutorial from the "agile book" and
everything works absolutely perfectly using Webrick. I got
rails 1.1.3 from ruby gems, and since have done an

Rails, rSpec edge problems
Hi,
Does the Story Runner work on edge rails? I thought that is what the

story I get the following:
