real time R
Hi, We're using R in an application where asking for a probability of an event takes about 130ms. What could we do to take that down to 30ms-40ms? The query code uses randomforest, knn. -- M.

ferret / hyperestraier indexing time
since i cant manage to get the accelerated ferret going (amd64 incompatible C code) and hyperestraier returns 0 results for everything after a reboot (despite claiming its index is every bit as big as before) i made a simple rails inverted index that essentially just does a find_or_create_by_word for each word, and then adds its id to a join table linking words and documents.. the only

Ferret::StateError while using acts_as_ferret
I''m fairly new to ferret / aaf and finding it much easier to use than HyperEstraier (which I migrated from). However, I am getting a few errors and I need to figure out if they''re problems with my usage of ferret or a bug I should report. I''m currently running Ferret 0.10.11 with acts_as_ferret (latest via svn external) and 3 times today I''ve seen the

Is Ferret the standard rails search engine?
Is Ferret the standard rails search engine? I''m looking to search the file system and MySQL. TextSearch is working fine for MySQL. http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/TextSearch Is Ferret the solution that most people are using for documents in the file system? Thanks. Ultrasphinx search error... Invalid class name
I''ve got Ultrasphinx powering the search on my Rails app. It''s working with all of my models when they''re first indexed, but then, after what seems like a random amount of time, I''ll get the following error on just *one* of my models: search#show (Ultrasphinx::UsageError) "Invalid class name \"Playlist \"" I set up this model like so:

Recommended search library?
I''m at a point where I''d like to start adding search capability to my app, so I thought I''d ask: Anyone have any recommendations for a good Rails search library/plugin/etc? There seem to be quite a few different ones out there, but I don''t have much context on any of them. What is the difference between using Ferret, or a SearchGenerator, SimpleSearch,

how to search all fields for a string in SQL ?
Using SQL or activerecord I am not sure how to search all fields for a specific value ? I know how to do this by just writing ruby code. To do it in SQL or an activerecord find w/condition, I don''t know how. I actually am supposed to combine an find w/ condition and a search all fields for a value and AND those together. I think perhaps it can''t be done with a single find ?

after_create and after_save
Hi, AFAIK after_create is called after_save if the entry does not exist in the DB. Is there a way to tell if a specific model is new or not in after_save? I have to do something like: def after_save add_to_history ''save'' end def after_create add_to_history ''create'' end However after_save is called when creating too. -- cheers, M.

Benchmark - Thanks Dave for making this gnawer this FAST!!
Hi List, I''ve took some time and made some tests on the performance of java-lucene, hyperestraier and ferret as Dave encourages the community of ferret to do so. Quite intersting numbers. Ferret indeed deserves to be called a high-performance port!! It''s MyFirstBenchmark ( http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/wiki/MyFirstBenchmark ) so please don''t be too cruel on

Scaling Ferret Beyond One Server
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if folks here have had experience scaling Ferret beyond a single server? Currently, we are running Ferret in the same physical server as its Rails front end (via acts_as_ferret), but it is evident that we need a more scalable solution already. How would you split up the tasks (via dRB perhaps?) between two or three servers? Shared disk, replicated Ferret index (?),
