I want to shaping FTP traffic.
Dear. folks
I want to shaping FTP traffic.
I can get following information from Stef Coene's Homepage, www.docom.org.
"Ftp uses random ports, so matching the data traffic is not easy. However it can done if you use iptables to mark ftp-data packets and use that mark with the fw filter. For more info see http://home.regit.org/connmark.html. "

HTB and ARP
Hi,
I discover recently that the arp traffic is managed like any other flow.
So you get hang after a moment if you don''t use a default class.
Is the any means to avoid this ? Not to have a default class is a way to
filter traffic ...
One would be to managed to class ARP request with tc but I don''t know if
it is possible.
Thanks in advance,

upload vs download
I have a tc script which splits the bandwidth in 8 leaf classes based on
IP filtering.
The script looks like this:
tc filter add dev $LAN_IFACE protocol ip parent 1:0 prio 1 u32 match ip
dst 192.168.0.121 flowid 1:11
The separation works excellent for downloads, but for uploads, it is
ignored...
Can you tell me how to deal with it?
Thanks in advance,

Egress shaping over multiple interfaces?
Hello,
After reading the excellent HOWTO I got traffic shaping working nicely over
ethernet devices on a test setup. I can''t put this setup live though, because
our main firewall has three 2mbit hdlc interfaces instead of a single device.
We are using multipath routing using iproute2 nexthop at the moment, and that
works fine for firewalling. But now I have a need for shaping and

newbie - shaping a PSTN connection
Hi - I''ve been going through the LARTC how-to and have successfully used the
sample scripts (and wondershaper) with my xDSL links.
I''m now faced with the challenge of providing 8 users at work an effective
remote access connection over a PSTN ppp connection. The critical traffic in
this case relates to our stock enquiry application which is running over
terminal services.

herz the script that i have done.
Hello there,
Having made quite a lot of expensive mistakes i have finally clobbered
together a script for the users on my network.
Have a look at it and please suggest as to how can i limit bandwidth to
each ip on this network to about 64Kbits.

cbq vs htb?
Hello,
Does anyone know when one should use cbq versus (simpler more accurate) htb? Specifically does cbq have added functionality that may be of interest to certain applications?
from htb home> Both CBQ and HTB help you to control the use of the
outbound bandwidth on a given link. Both allow you to use one physical link to simulate several slower links and to send different kinds of

Question on TC filter
Hi,
I want work out a GUI interface for htb and now here
comes to the part about adding and removing classes
and filters.

echo "Add root qdisc, default traffic go to 1:30"
$TC qdisc add $DEV root handle 1: htb default 30
echo "Divide the traffic into different classes and

CBQ_bandwidth
Hi Stef,
Reffering to page < http://www.docum.org/stef.coene/qos/faq/cache/7.html
> I found a para as follows,
" CBQ is not always as accurate as it should be. See docum.org on the
test page for some tests with bounded classes. The algorithm used by cbq
is very "link sensitive". It calculates the link idle time and for that
it needs the real link bandwidth, average

Shaping known application traffic
Hi,
Many of traffic shaper products provide shaping based on certain
application type. How can we implement shaping of recognized application
types? Like FTP can take only 64Kbps irrelevant of weather FTP Server is
running on port 21 or 4096.
Thanks for your suggestions.

The first card is used to connect to public network and this network
connects with a big router.
The Second, third and fourth cards are used by other networks.
The first card used a dinamic route with the big router.
The other cards used a static route with a little router.
All runs good but my problem is when I try to use the IP of my first

Problem with flowid filter example from howto
For simplicity, I tried this:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: prio
tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent 1:1 handle 10: sfq perturb 10
tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent 1:2 handle 20: sfq perturb 10
tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent 1:3 handle 30: sfq perturb 10
tc filter add dev eth0 protocol ip parent 1: prio 2 flowid 1:1
The last line prints:
Unknown filter "flowid", hence option "1:1"
