streaming: some idea's
Greetings,
A couple of weeks ago, there was here a discussion about streaming. Here
is two things that I would like to add to
the discussion: meta-streaming and control-streaming. (Althou I do not
think my ideas are that new)
* First metastreaming:
If you look at DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting), one of nice features
(apart from it being a European standard ;-)) is the existing of a
meta-stream.

Load Balancing/NAT
Hey, I''m trying to set up a Gentoo box to replace an aging BSD box here.
The BSD box is running packet filter and I have it set up to take all
data and route it to one of six sattelites. I have come up with the
following config, but unfortunately I have no real way to test it short
of switching the satellites over to the new system and prayer.
The setup is:

DVB audio stream

I am trying to broadcast a radio station with the source being the
station's transmission on DVB (satellite), has anyone tried installing a
DVB card in a Linux box and feeding the stream to Icecast ?

Question from XM Radio
Thanks Jim, that's understood. When I say AMBE isn't working well, I
only mean from the audience acceptance point of view. Technically it is
fine. It is exactly doing the job we had expected.
It's the long standing wish that everyone wants... More for less. We
are just seeking a bit of magic that just may not be there. Ideally
finding a codec that can perform

Load Balancing with Instant Messenger traffic?
Hi, I have a box set up to distribute load over 4 satellite connections.
I cannot use Instant Messenger programs with it as it stands, I believe
that using iproute2, the path to the server is not being locked to one
interface, so the IM servers are getting user traffic from multiple IPs.
When I set just one default gateway, IMs work great. When I use the
scope global/nexthop method of load

Question from XM Radio
Hi,
> You can try the Ogg DirectShow filter to get Windows support for Speex:
if you wait a little longer, I am trying to provide speex support for the
ffmpeg project (www.ffmpeg.org).
It does encode/decode to/from avi and wav, a support for ogg has not been
done, and my question is, should it be necessary? I don't really like ogg in
first place..

machine scheduler: pre-RA bidirectional scheduling
Hi,
I would like to get some feedback about the current status of the pre-RA
machine scheduler bidirectional scheduling.
I have tried enabling this on SystemZ, and found that it slightly
increases spilling generally (in one benchmark with as much as 5%).
Benchmarking do not indicate that bidirectional would be a win, either.
Is this within the expected, or does it indicate something in the

Question from XM Radio
Thanks for the reply. We are currently using AMBE (4Kbps) for our Traffic/Weather Channels. If you have ever had a chance to hear the service, you will know that AMBE does not do us well.

I understand that 2Kbps is low quality, but any poorer than AMBE?

If can get a decent quality for other low bandwidth talk channels, such as about 10-16Kbps and have it sound rather clean, then I would be

Corrupt Files
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is)
Hello,
I recently noticed that some of my vorbis-files are corrupt, and I'm sure they
weren't before. I have no idea how this could happen.
Now my question is: is this vorbis' fault or is it more likely that my (still
present) Windows-Installation destroyed the data? (Or even worse: my harddisk's
corrupt) The files are on

VT-d "partial" success - passing DVB-S tuner to Windows DomU (based off previous thread of similar name!)
Hi All,
So I''ve got a DVB-S PCI Express card ($30 USD Twinhan AD-SE200 off
eBay) that''s being passed via VT-d/pciback in Xen 3.2.1 under CentOS
5.2 to a Windows XP SP3 which works! ... except for one small issue...
Motherboard is an Intel DQ35JO that much people has had success with
and an Intel E8400 CPU.
The issue is that when dealing with FTA MPEG-2 transport streams (DVB-S

Bidirectional printers, LPRng, and Samba...
Does anyone have any hints or suggestions on getting some JetDirect-based
printers set up for bidirectional printing in Samba?
We're using LPRng 3.8.0, ifhp 3.4.7, and samba 2.2.2
From the LPRng standpoint, the printers seem to be set up for
bidirectional communication fine.. but how do we get Samba to allow
bidirectional communication?
Thanks in advance!

How to route certain ports to other link
Hi,
I have one satellite link and one sdsl link. And, one
LAN link.
My load balancing is working great with a iptables''s
masquerading (no fw rules).
Now, I need to route the following ports to my sdsl
link: -
20, 21, 22, 25, 80, 110, 143, and 443
Whereas the others go to my satellite link.
Does anyone done this before?
Regards,
rootlinux

"linkfile not having link" occurrs sometimes after renaming
There are two users u1 & u2 in the cluster. Some files are created by u1,
and they are read only for u2. Of course u2 can read these files. Later
these files are renamed by u1. Then I switch to the user u2. I find that u2
can't list or access the renamed files. I see these errors in log:

Problems balancing two uplink providers
Hi all,
I have implemented a solution with a machine balancing the network load
between two DSL providers as is explained in the LARTC Howto. It is
apparently working correctly, but i have some problems.
The problem is basically that some packets go out by each ADSL interface
with the source address of the other ADSL interface. I think that the
routing based on source address isn''t

Daniel,
I don''t know if you found a solution to your problem, I''m currently passing a DVB-S card through to my XPSP3 DomU with Mediaportal as the streaming app. Anyhow, I was having performance issues with my mpeg2 streams as well. I ended up doing the following on my Q6600:
xm vcpu-set Domain-0 3
xm sched-credit -d DomU -w 2048
With the Dom0 pinned to 3 cpus, and my DomU on
