Food for thought on these. I like have_one a lot. It speaks to me as a
Rails developer and I think it speaks to

Validation with Aggregation
ActiveRecord supports composed_of for value objects which is
fantastic but one thing that it doesn''t seem to support (or at least
I am unable to find any documentation for) validation of the value
objects.
For example, given the following:
class Message < ActiveRecord::Base
composed_of :sender, :class_name => ''EmailAddress''
composed_of :recipient,

Not Active Record Model Validation
I have a problem with ruby on rails validation
total_book_toy.rhtml
================
<%= text_field ''book1'', ''title1'' %>
<%= text_field ''book2'', ''title2'' %>
I want to validate these text_field so user can''t insert same title.
However, I was stuck how to do it.
Or maybe you have another way how to do it.

presenting validation errors via fbml?
Hi Facebookers,
Is there a helper or suggested approach for presenting validation
errors on an fbml form?
Something to translate rails error markup to fbml:error markup?
thanks

validation errors bring up stack trace error page
hello!
I made some custom validations for my app, which do catch invalid data
in the console. However, when I enter invalid data through a form on the
browser view, I get your stack trace error style page (similar to what
you see when you get a syntax error or a nil object) instead of the
nicely styled error messages (what you would see in a scaffolded
application.
First off, what is the stack

standard ActiveRecord validation message
in testing my app I just use the validations
validates_presence_of :first_name, :last_name, :email
validates_presence_of :academy, :message => "You must select an
Academy"
validates_presence_of :role, :message => "You must select a role"
standard error_messages are fine for most of my fields , resulting

acts_as_commentable validations
Hi all,
I recently started back up with Rails and things are going well up until
now.
I''ve set up acts_as_commentable in my Post model and it''s working great.
Problem is users are able to create a "blank" comment. I''ve added the
following validations in the comment.rb file generated by
acts_as_commentable to limit the comment length:

Combine custom validations with helpers
Hi
I have a model that uses several validation helpers, for example
validates_presence_of. Now I want to add a custom validate method for
a very complex validation. I override validate in the model and it
works by itself but when I do this the helper validations stop
working. I guess the helper methods rely on the
ActiveRecord::Base#validate original method in some way. Has anyone
any suggestions

output validations errors form causing type error?
Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to output validation errors in a
nested form? I suppose this should be possible, but I am experiencing
an error message that I can''t track down.
The error I get is the following :
TypeError in Store/orders#create
Showing app/views/store/orders/new.html.erb where line #45 raised:
can''t convert Array into String

remote_form_for ajax validation
Hi,
I have been reading a lot about this, but I do not manage to do a nice
validation. I already managed to save data to the database, to
validate a field, to display a "Everything went well" message. I can
also display an error message, but the view does not end up properly.
This is the form:
<% remote_form_for(product) do |f| %>
<%= f.error_messages %>

How to skip password validation when updating other fields?
Besides the hashed password, which is saved to db, I have two
password-attributes in my User model:
attr_accessor :password, :password_confirmation
I have validations on these attributes, and I need them to work both on
create and update, since I have pages for changing and resetting the
password.
Now when I want to update just the user''s login name, I guess I have the

Active Record, Migration, and Translation
Hi,
I think the columns and table in migration should be able to have an
optional "display_name" set manually. Something like:
create_table :people, {display_name => "Personne"} do |t|
t.column :first_name :string, :display_name => "Prénom".
end
Let me explain my point of view:
Rails is a framework made to write programs in English. You see it when

Form validation - keepin correct fields displayed on refresh
All,
I''m finally doing my first real form in Rails - the model object that
I''m entering information for has 8 validations so far.
If I type in good values for all the fields but one, I get the pretty
validation, and the nice field highlighting, but all of the fields are
cleared, forcing me to retype all of that info. That is a big drag.
Is there a standard way to get the

Consequences of overriding update_attribute to force validation?
I know the debate of whether this should validate has been rehashed
many times. My question is, what are the consequences of overriding
this method to force validation? Will this break fundamental things?
Will it break plugins? Is there a reason not to have a strict
validation option?
In my code I will never use this as I consider it a terribly broken
method, but some gems use it and in one case

validates_peresence_of
Is there an expert validater that can point me in the right direction?
I''ve looked for extended documentation on ''validates_presence_of'' but i
can''t seem to find any.
I''m trying to make sure that i don''t enter a nil object in my database,
so i''ve added validate_presence_of to my Record Model.

Single Validation Error... best practices?
So a lot of Rails apps (mine included) have multiple validations on a
single attribute. For example: on the password field, validating that
it is (a) not blank, (b) matches the confirmation, (c) is at least X
characters long, and (d) contains at least 1 alpha and at least 1
numeric character.
The problem is: if that field is blank, the default errors shows all
four. That''s a little

form level validation, where to do it.
Form level validation involving enforcing a relation between two or
more form inputs that may not even be in the model:
I am building a form that will query a range of records between two
dates.
The form ask for a starting data and a ending date.
I want to validate that the user selected a starting data before or
equal to the ending date.
It seems that this validation should happen in the

Validation question
Hi all,
Is there a way to invoke validations at times other than save, create
and update? I know that I can do this by writing my own validation
checks using errors.add_[blah], but I''d like to leverage the existing
validation code.
What I have is two sets of fields in a record, set A and set B. Both
sets must be validated on record create. However, the trouble is that
after
