Rendering all the elements when calling Array#to_xml
When I call to_xml on an array, I want it to get the XML for all the elements in it. I''ve defined to_xml in my class. >> r.to_xml => "<video><id>1</id><views>2</views></video>" >> a = [r] => [#<StatisticsReport:0x3259f38 @video_id=1, @views=2>] >> a.to_xml => "<?xml version=\"1.0\"

XML from Builder without the to_s element
Hi All, I''m trying to return XML from a Rails view of an object I built up using Builder::XmlMarkup and I find an annoying side effect is that I get an extra <to_xml/> or <to_s/> element back which makes REXML hiccup thinking I''m adding a recond root element when I try to parse the return. How can I return the XML without this last element? Thanks, Vince

Loading xml document using Nokogiri and retrieving CDATA element
This is an extension of my last post (problems with REXML) which has me looking to Nokogiri again. The reason I am not using Nokogiri is I can not seem to find a way to get CDATA out of a Nokogiri document. First, can you tell me if I am loading my document correctly, because when I call my_document.to_xml, I only get one line back: (rdb:1) test_file = Nokogiri::XML(mismo_xml_file)

Disabling XML character escaping for to_xml
Currently, it appears to_xml will automatically escape any entities into their corresponding &XXX representation. There''s a piece in the documentation that says "If $KCODE is set to u and encoding set to UTF8, then escaping will NOT be performed." Unfortunately, this doesn''t appear to be the case. Even after following the docs and ensuring that default_charset is

Confused about to_xml() in ActiveRecord::Base subclass
Since all my efforts to control how to_xml() is formatting dates has failed, I''m now considering writing my own to_xml(). However, from the limited examples I''ve found, I just don''t understand how to actually reference the columns for the records in my record set. Here''s a simplified view of my ActiveRecord object: class Errors < ActiveRecord::Base

Hello... I''m trying to generate and XML file using .rxml and I''m having a problem with element names that contain a hyphen. Help with to_xml - Add a custom tag in each ele in a coll.
Hi, I was advised to use either the :methods option of to_xml or use a block to add additional tags to the output. What I''m trying to do is add a permalink tag to each element in a collection, but I can''t seem to get it right. If I use the :methods option of to_xml, I''d need to access an url helper from a model, and I haven''t figured that out yet. When using

[patch] Allowing to_xml to rename keys in lower camel case format
Hi all, I''ve created and submitted a patch to resolve an issue I had while attempting to meet the OpenSocial API specifications, which dictates that the xml output have tags formatted as lower camelcase (as opposed to upper camelcase, which is currently the only option). With this patch, simply passing :camelize => true still begets the current behavior, but you can now enable lower

How to best change the default value of dasherize (using Edge Rails, and knowing about :dasherize => false)?
Hi all, I''m trying to turn off dasherize in all cases, since converting underscores to hyphens breaks the way that I want to handle XML (with E4X in Flex 2). I''ve read the other threads about dasherize on this list. I''m on Edge Rails, so I can successfully turn off dasherize for a single usage with something like render :xml => @task.to_xml(:dasherize => false)

ROXML versus simple to_xml
How they differ? Does the to_xml method of the classes array/hash/object is based on ROXML lib? As I see in http://roxml.rubyforge.org/#quickstart, roxml needs we define the class (class Book in the guide) before to convert a object to xml. Moreover, the method to_xml (when not using "include ROXML") just accepts any existing object, what is much suitable. I need to compare and tranfer

to_xml eager loading?
Activerecord supports eager loading with the following syntax: Author.find(:all, :include=>[{:posts=>:comments}, :categorizations]. to_xml has an :include option that supports a shallow form of eager loading to create the xml: author.to_xml(:include[:posts]). Is there a way to generate the xml from all associated objects for a particular model instance?

to_xml repeating elements and plain strings
Say I want to output XML like this: <myXML> <id>123</id> <fruit>apple</fruit> <fruit>banana</fruit> <fruit>pear</fruit> <fruit>lemon</fruit> </myXML> Is there a way of doing that with to_xml? to_xml ignore fields
Hi! I''d like to know how to (most easily) ignore some elements from produced XML .. for example: @people.to_xml produces: <person> <id>2</id> <name>bob</name> <street>carson street</street> </person> ... How can I *not* produce the "ID" field for example? Thank you! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

to_xml for Foo::Bar active records
20 / 20 hind sight, I would probably do things different today but I have most of my active record classes under different parent classes. For example: module Foo class Bar < ActiveRecord::Base ... end end The to_xml for this produces <foo/bar> .... </foo/bar> The / in a tag name is not allowed. Questions: 1) Is this a bug? 2) If so, suggestion of what to convert it to?
