Ajax.Updater not populating element - please help
Hello everyone,
This is related to my post a few days ago regarding multi select
lists. I''ve rewritten the code and now can''t seem to get the
Ajax.Updater in getModels() to "execute", and the element never gets
populated.
I know it''s something obvious and hope someone could point it out to me.
Thanks for any help.
Here''s my code:

Passing extra parameters to functions called from Observers
Hi again,
When you have an ''obeserver'' setup as follows:
$(''myForm'').observe(''submit'', validateForm);
If a user submits the form the ''validateForm'' function is called and
is automagically passed the ''event'' to work with. This is fantastic!
But is there a way to pass another argument to the function?

Here is what I have below. I am getting this error each time:
Error: document.myform.add_visit_for_this_Pt has no properties

Strange that I can''t seem to pass value into the function.
Thanks for your help!

in_place_editor and no access to value
I have the following in my rhtml and I get an error that ''value'' does
not exist. This looks like the examples that I have seen so I am not
sure what I am doing wrong. If I take off the :with part, I get a value
parameter passed to my controller, but then I can''t figure out how to
get the country id passed like I need to.

model.frame: object is not a matrix
Over a decade ago there was a problem with model.frame when the variable
names were long:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2002-August/024492.html
I have similar symptoms with R 2.15.3 on Windows 7:
Browse[2]> x <- model.matrix(formula(myform), p$data)
Error in model.frame.default(object, data, xlev = xlev) (from mice.R#601) :

issue with model.frame()
A user sent me an example where coxph fails, and the root of the failure is a case where
names(mf) is not equal to the term.labels attribute of the formula -- the latter has an
extraneous newline. Here is an example that does not use the survival library.
# first create a data set with many long names
n <- 30? # number of rows for the dummy data set

Extracting the current value of a DOM element
So, say I have two select boxes. One with the letters of the alphabet,
and a second with a list of names. When I select the letter in the
first, how do I, in my onChange function, extract the value I selected
in the first box, to determine what values to populate the second box
with?
I don''t want to submit the form, I''d like to do this with Ajax.
Thanks in advance,
Ben.

Passing in arguments into function
Hi,
I had a function that looked like:
diff <- lm(x ~ y + z)
How can I pass the argument to the 'lm' function on the fly? E.g., if I pass it
in as a string (e.g. "x ~ y + z"), then the lm function treats it as a string
and not a proper argument.
many thanks

Element.addMethods() is not a function after upgrade to 1.7.0
After upgrading to prototype 1.5.0 and scriptaculous 1.7.0 my
autocompleter.local died... firebug reports that effects.js is to
blame calling Element.addMethods();
I can not find out why cause as far as I can see it does exist in
prototype.js.
Any pointers anyone :(

How to parse the arguments from a function call and evaluate them in a dataframe?
Hi,
I would like to write a function which has the following syntax:
myfn <- function(formula, ftime, fstatus, data) {
# step 1: obtain terms in `formula' from dataframe `data'
# step 2: obtain ftime from `data'
# step 3: obtain fstatus from `data'
# step 4: do model estimation
# step 5: return results
}
The user would call this function as:

"form_for" names fields using brackets = javascript problems
Hi all,
The "form_for" helper and its friends "text_field_for" etc generate form
fields with names like "forum[title]", i.e. using square brackets to
denote attributes on model objects.
Now, for the convenience of the user I want to do some simple
client-side validation to check that some fields have been filled in. So
I am trying to write javascript like

Handling Multiple Select Lists
Hi All,
After much searching and head scratching I post you this!
I can''t seem to find a generic way to handle multiple select data. The
function I use to receive form values will only pass the first selected
value from a multiple select. I have pasted part of the form and the
function below.
Thanks for any pointers,
Vince

Ajax.InPlaceEditor on Safari & Firefox
Hi,
I''ve downloaded the latest svn trunk and was glad to see that
Ajax.InPlaceEditor forms can now be correctly submitted on Safari as
well, with the server response being correctly displayed as well.
The problem is, however, that clicking again on the same element
(after sumbitting it first) will duplicate the submit form. The next
attempt will triplicate it etc, etc...

Auto refreshing a page based on select change
Hi all,
I have a select helper form on a web page which contains a list of dates. When
the user selects a date, one of the other forms on the page needs to be updated
based on the newly selected date.
Is there a way to catch this event in Rails? Are we talking Ajax here? Or is
there a simpler way?
Thanks,
Dan

[Prototype] Ajax.Request include form fields?
Hi,
Is it possible to submit my form (or part of my form) with an ajax
request? I had been using dojo to do this, but having just read up on
the prototype library, I think I''d rather use prototype. The one
thing I don''t see (maybe I''m just missing it) is the ability to submit
my form (actually just parse through an element and include all inputs
as request parameters)

Multiple actions from one form - possible?
Hello *
Obviously the rhtml below does not work, but it should be apparent what
I try to achieve - I would like to give the user the choice to submit a
form either to action1 or action2 but I cannot figure out how?! It would
be great if someone could give some assistance.
Thanks a lot, Alex

afterFinish option not working as expected
Hello,
I''m trying to use the afterFinish parameter on the BlindDown effect,
but it''s not working as I expect it to. My function appears to be
called just as the effect is starting, not when the BlindDown is
complete (finished drawing).
Here''s the code that I''m using for the most part...
