Hi, I''ve got a public\images\DownArrow.jpg and app\views\expenses\new.html.erb that want to present this image in the following context: <p> <%= f.label :vendor %><br /> <%= f.text_field :vendor %> <%= f.image "DownArrow.jpg" %> <br> <%= select_tag "test", options_for_select(@current_vendors.collect {

Problems with form_for and partials
i''m having problem with a form_for situation where i''m trying to DRY out the repeated parts of my forms and put them in common/form and render the form elements via another partial in controller_name/_form. NoMethodError for select_tag
Hello there. I am following a tutorial with rails 2.1 and I have come across a problem where <%= f.label :artist_id %><br /> <%= f.select_tag(:artist_id, options_for_select([[''choose one'', '''']] + @artists.collect {|art| [art.name, art.id]}, @album.artist_id)) %> (Old artist info:<%= @album.artist_old%>) gives undefined method

Rewriting FormBuilder
Hi, I want to extend formbuilder to make it output a lable (I know about labeled_form_helper made by technoweenie), my own formating, and a couple of extra tags inside the form attribute. I was easily able to extend form_remote_to. But when I continue to adjust the way elements are handled I don''t know how to continue. I can''t find the method text_field thats should is

custom form builder
In the API docs I found this: "You can also build forms using a customized FormBuilder class. Subclass FormBuilder and override or define some more helpers, then use your custom builder " I couldn''t find any further documentation on this. Where can I read more about this formbuilder class? For starters, where would I define a subclass of this class? TIA, Jeroen --

Arbitrary elements in form_for?
I would like to use form_for in my project so that I can easily change the style of many forms at once. However, it seems to me like FormBuilders only support certain kinds of form elements(!). Surely there must be a way to add arbitrary labels/form elements to a form. Let''s say I had a form that looks like: ID: (plain-text label) Name: (text field) Birthdate: (date chooser) Picture:

form_for and partials
I love form_for, but I really hate <% form_for :person, @person, :url => {...} do |f| %> ... <%= render :partial => ''form'', :locals => {''f'' => f} ... <% end %> I''ve been thinking of instead allowing <% form_for :person, @person, :url => {...} do |f| %> ... <%= f.partial ''form''

form helpers don't seem to work with RJS files...
I’ve been spending a great deal of time chasing this problem. Hopefully someone sees something obvious I’m doing wrong. Basically anytime I try to call fields_for from an RJS file or within a partial in the RJS file, I get the following error. My goal is simply to load a partial into a div. The fields in this partial require fields_for though. And that’s where the problem lies.

Accessing Rails helper method with_output_buffer
Hi all, I cannot figure out how to correctly use the with_output_buffer helper method (located in ActionView::Helpers::CaptureHelper) inside a custom FormBuilder. Below follows a simplified example. I''m trying to achieve the following behavior in an ERB as suggested in the form_for helper docs in the Rails source: ========== <%= form_for @object, :builder => MyFormBuilder do

How do i switch off error wrapping for a specific field?
Hi, i have some issues with the default rails error wrapping. It wraps errors in a div with class ''fieldsWithError'', which is not good practice in my eyes. Adding a class ''error'' to the field would be much nicer. My solution to the problem: build your own FormBuilder. Funny enough, i found no (nice) possibility to switch error wrapping off while using the

Outputing to the browser, how?
Hello, I''m writting some helper methods to write forms, so I have this working code: class TableFormBuilder < ActionView::Helpers::FormBuilder ["file_field", "password_field", "text_field"].each do |name| define_method(name) do |label, *args| @template.content_tag(:tr, @template.content_tag(:td, @template.content_tag(:label,

ActiveRecord validations and FormBuilder
Hi, I''m writing my own FormBuilder and I wanted to put an asterisk or something next to any required fields. The Builder has access to the AR object, is there any method I can call on the AR object that will tell me whether or not a particular field is required? Failing that, can I access the complete list of validations so I can look through it for instances of

FormBuilder in rjs
I have a page, which renders a partial that contains a ''State'' drop down list. Upon change, it re-renders the ''City'' drop down, re- populating it based on selected state_id: Page: /customer/new.rhtml <% form_for :customer, :url => customers_path do |f| %> State: <%= f.collection_select :state_id, State.find(:all), ''id'',

React on select_tag (onchange)
Hi, I''m new in developint rails (but I love rails). I would like to react on changing a field in the view (no model field) from a selection box to show the number of rows (which I used in the controller). In the controller I read the params-hash: ... @rowsperpage = params[''rowsperpage''].to_i ... In the view I have the field, where I like to react directly. ...

boolean button helper
I don''t have a blog, but wanted to share this little bit of code with other semi-beginners like myself who are still learning to take advantage of rails features. Selecting an attribute with a boolean switch is a common pattern in forms. You can do it with a check box, but radio buttons are more expressive in some situations and better convey to the user that they are making a mandatory

Dynamic drop-downs in a form_for using AJAX remote_function - Help
Hello - I am fairly new to Ruby on Rails, but feel like I am learning quick. I have what seems to be a fairly unique issue as I cannot find much out there that describes what I''m seeing. Hopefully it''s a very simple fix, and I simply can''t see the forest through all the trees! I am attempting to create 2 related drop-down lists in the same form_for, both using

is f.submit in a form_for newer than submit_tag?
some books or even the rails api uses form_for ... ... submit_tag ... end and i found that the Rails 2.3.2 Scaffold uses f.submit "Go" instead... and this is not in the rails api doc. Is this a new addition and is it suppose to replace submit_tag? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

how to do a simple update on the server from a change of a select box?
I have a list of items on a page. Each item has a select list. If someone changes the select list I would like to update the appropriate record on the server....nothing else. I suspect I am making this too difficult. I have an action on my controller for updating this value. I just tried the ''remote_function'', ah, function. It invokes the action on the controller but the the
