IPtraf not looking right on the console..
I have a CentOS 4 server at home where we store all our data, I wanted to get some idea of the amount of traffic going into and out of the server by protocol so I installed IPtraf.. When I run it from an ssh session it looks fine but when I run it directly on the server console its doesn't look right at all.. It doesn't seem to layout correctly.. Is there something I need to do

gre/ipsec loadbalancing
Hi, I have the following setup. Two linux systems with two [test] external interfaces encrypted with ipsec [transport]. Two gre tunnels that pass 10.200.0.0/24 and 10.200.1.0/24 network traffic. Testing the balanced tunnels I would setup iptraf on one and ping from the other. The results would be as expected; traffic would be split between the two interfaces. Testing with an ftp transfer of

Hello Everybody, I have configured a Linux box that does traffic shaping. Its working wonderfully fine, just as expected...Now i want to measure the bandwidth consumed by each of my hosts....But I dont want SNMP to run on all the hosts[as required by MRTG] I used iptraf on my linux box, but it only measures the bandwidth on interface basis only.... Looking for ntop alternative
Hi, Can anyone please recomment an ntop alternative for me, which is more stable as well? I need to monitor all connections to and from a CentOS 5 server and ntop does it fairly well, but seems to crash at random times, and thus looses all the date prior to the crash. Cacti / MRTG only gives complete bandwidth usage on the given interface, but I need to know how much bandwidth goes where, and

Network bandwidth tools.
Hi All, I am wondering what tools are available in CentOS 5.5 that would allow me to measure incoming and outgoing network speeds? My new website seems to be getting a lot more traffic that I had anticipated off the bat and I would like to measure resource usage to ensure it is keeping up. I know that top only measures CPU Best, -Jason

Tracking Traffic By Port or Process?
Does anyone know of a way to track TCP/IP traffic by TCP/UDP port and/or by process/daemon with CentOS? I know a variety of ways to track it in total (e.g., ifInOctets & ifOutOctets with SNMP), but I'm not sure how to be approach seeing traffic by application, port, or process. One option would be to write something that would sift through different stuff for each daemon (for example,

OT - Is there a package to monitor network traffic
We have a situation here that is a real mystery. Our MRTG on our outgoing router and a firewall server that protects our web servers is showing a spike every six hours. I can't find the server behind the firewall that is generating such an extreme amount of packets, even though I've looked through the crontabs of nearly all servers, performed "ps" variations, and other

ntop from rpmforge
I don't know why I haven't signed up for this list before since we use CentOS all over the place. The list is very useful and it is good for me to participate and "give back" to the community. Anywho, I wanted to post this response to a thread that was created back in November 2008 about the ntop daemon failing to start. I'm currently setting up ntop as a NetFlow &

Anyone running ntop on FBSD5.4
If you are running ntop on 5.4, what compile options? Use ports version? Or surgefile tarball? It makes a great security forensics tools, but I can't get it to stop segfaulting. Was wondering if anyone found a fix for it. -- Michael Scheidell, CTO 561-999-5000, ext 1131 SECNAP Network Security Corporation Take a vacation from spam: http://www.spammertrap.com

Wondershaper
Hi ! I´ve been using the wonderful wondershaper from chapter 15.8 of the LARTC Howto for some time. It´s really wonderful. Actually, I use the version from http://freshmeat.net/projects/wshaper/?topic_id=87 Now I tried to put some hosts to low priority, and it doesn´t work. The traffic is splitted equally between the noprio and the other hosts. Is this because I use ip masquerading, and all

Help! Martians invading through IPSec. :-)
[ sorry for cross-posting this to newbies and users, but I''m a bit desperate to get this resolved ] This is strange... I had this working before without any problems, and recently we started to have some odd issues. I can''t be sure exactly what has changed as I''m unfortunately not the only person with access to the server. {sigh} The problem is that I pretty much

IPIP tunnels and TCP connections
I was trying the following setup with IPIP tunnels, one that used to work through another ISP, but no longer... Difference between tc reported rate and IPTraf Rate
I am using HTB+IMQ on an Ethernet bridge and tc for statistics reporting. I am finding that tc reported rate is about 5-10% less than that reported by IPTraf for the same traffic. Has anyone observed this before? Which is more accurate? Rajesh
