postgresql sequence and migrations
I have a specific need to ''fixate'' my ''roles'' table sequence when
migrating.
at migration #4, I have 28 records in my roles tables and I can manually
reset the roles_id_seq but it stands to reason that since I am doing
everything else in the migration, I might as well reset the sequence
there too.
so I tried this in my migration file...

rsync and HP11.11 problem
Hi All,
I am trying to run rsync from HP11.00 machine (source) to HP11.11

changing since it is snapshot of active data.
Every time we try to run the following command:
timex rsync -avuz --delete isynh09:/snap
We get the following error:

PostgreSQL 8.1 on CentOS4
I have discovered that the default init script distributed with
pgsql v8.1 sets the listening port to 5432 but does not enable
tcp/ip connections. One must add the -i switch to the invocation
line in the script. I am not sure if this is an oversight or
whether there is another way to tell postmaster to start with
tcp/ip listening enabled that I am unaware of. However, I thought
that this

Rails 1.1: not-null constraint violations
Since upgrading to Rails 1.1, I now get these errors:
PGError: ERROR: null value in column "added" violates not-null

The ''added'' column has a default of current_timestamp, and this used to
work fine with Rails 1.0. Are we supposed to put default values in

PGError: duplicate key
I''m running a rails 2.3.5 / ruby 1.8.7 / postgresql 8.4.2 app and have
just run into a curious problem.
I have several tables that are initialized with data from csv files
and I''ve noticed that, when I try to add new data to any of these
tables via Table.new I get a PGError on duplicate key.
For example:

Include with two references of one model of the same table
Hey guys,
I just came across this oddity, not sure what to make of it yet, but
I think it might be incorrect behavior. When doing a @inst.find(:all,
:include => ["hometeam", "awayteam"] ...) hometeam and awayteam are two
references from a belongs_to that is of the same model and of the same
table. I will get a pgerror stating that "matches", which is

Problem with paginate, include and foreign keys
Hi all,
Solaris 10
Ruby 1.8.4
Rails 1.0.0
Postgres 8.1
postgres driver 0.7.1
I''m having a problem with getting paginate() to properly pick up an FK

I don''t seem to have this issue with ActiveRecord, however. Consider:
create table start_dates (
id bigserial,
start_date date unique,
max_slots int default 40,
primary key (id)

Using unix socket to connect with database
Hello,
I am using asterisk realtime with a postgresql database on the same server.
In res_pgsql.conf I have specified
[general]
dbhost=localhost
dbport=5432
dbname=asteriskdb
dbuser=psql
dbsock=/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432
Since both asterisk and db are on same server, I would like asterisk
to connect to db using the local unix socket. However asterisk is not
using the local unix socket to connect to
