Virtual Routers would this work?
Hello all,
I need a virtual firewall/router solution. I''m thinking of a
netscreen 1000 but I want to know if it can be done in Linux.
Here is my idea:
1 Linux box
2 GigE interfaces
1 interface setup with a public IP address ($PUBIP)
1 interface setup with 802.1q VLAN trunking with 100 vlans assigned
($VLAN1-$VLAN100)
a /25 subnet routed to $PUBIP from my core routers
All $VLAN

Newbie question - RPDB, policy routing etc...
Hello all,
I am going through the LARTC howto to understand how the iproute2 works.
But some concepts like Policy Routing, RPDB etc are not clear to me. I
am pretty new to iproute, beeing using route command for long...
From what I understand
1. rules (ip rule) tell how to select packets for routing and route (ip
route) tell where to route the selected packets.
2. A collection of rules is

Routing based on source address
Hi,
Is it possible to create a routing rule that depends on the source
host/network, besides the target host/network?
E.g. route everything from 192.168.0.x to 10.0.0.1, and route everything
from 192.168.1.x to 10.0.0.1.
TIA

Routing for multiple uplinks/providers problem.
Been running this for quite a while and noticed that have intermittent
problems getting out.
Find that if I ping the same site from 2 computers it may work on one
and fail on the other.
Also was surprised that some time they are going out different
interfaces at the same time.
Seems to work all the time from the firewall.

Routing problem (RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument) on multiple internet link.
Hi all,
I''m trying to set up a computer with 2 routes to the internet, much as
described at http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html .One of my
interfaces (eth5, 192.168.2.2) is only used for traffic originating inside
the network. The other (eth1, 192.168.1.2) is only used for a VPN, where all
(udp) traffic originates from outside our network. I have created a second

ipchains iproute2 and port based routing
Hi all!
I try to make port based routing, because a have two connections to the
internet.
My router is a "one disk floppy router for linux". It is a big router
project www.fli4l.de. I try also to make a opt, it is like a plugin for this
router.
This project uses Kernel 2.2.19 compiled with libc5 (because it is small and
you can use one floppy disk).
At the moment, iproute2 is not

Routing question
Hi,
I was wondering if somebody could assist me in the following
I have a lan with a mail server, a fixed outside ip address leased line
router at 10.1.1.1, and a dynamic outside ip address adsl router at 10.1.1.5
Our linux mail server always used to have the leased line router at
10.1.1.1, but now with our adsl, I''d like traffic to go across 10.1.1.5,
I thought it would be straight

Can someone refer me to any links which explain how to configure a stand

traffic is distributed between the 2 ISPs ?

Finally: A working case of two adsl load balance
First of all i wanna thanks Christoph Simon for the support.
Only after his reply to my email i could see the real solution to
the problem (Valeu mesmo cara... me ajudou pra caramba!

Here is what i learned in a month of research:
I tried A LOT of things to do load balance, including the one at

the routing cache and route selection; is this correct?
Hello all,
I do not read C very well (especially kernel C). Though I have tried to
muddle my way through an understanding of what''s going on in fib_hash.c,
fib_rules.c, and route.c, I have not succeeded to my satisfaction, hence
my post.
I''m trying to document the general process of route selection, and have
come up with the following overview. Could somebody point out any

Thanks in advance.

Route policy preference value
Assuming if I have rules matching the same packet,
the one chosen is the lower preference value or
the high ?
For example
# ip rule list
....
100 from 192.168.1.0/24 lookup main
200 from all fwmark 5 lookup first
.....
Packet is matching both rules, the one with priority/preference
100 or 200 is selected ?

multiple links and nat
Hi, this might be a dumb question, but I''m not finding much
information online.
I''m trying to setup a 2.6 linux box to run nat across multiple
upstream links as a simple way to aggregate bandwidth. I found the
instructions in lartc section 4.2
(http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html) fairly clear
and straightforward. I implemented those, and a couple of trivial

LARTC Wiki
Hi all,
Since the mail list receives a lot of repeated subjects (for example: "i
have two adsl lines..."), maybe these specific issues should be treated on
the LARTC Guide, or maybe if we had an wiki?
Is there a LARTC Wiki?
If not, what do you think about creating one?
Thanks
