RCov / RSpec segfaults on Ubuntu
Hi all, I appreciate that this is not an RSpec question, but I wondered if anyone out there can offer some pointers. We''re using the latest versions of RSpec and RCov, and ruby --version says this (on the Ubuntu build server): ruby 1.8.6 (2008-07-17 patchlevel 279) [x86_64-linux] We''re getting intermittent (yes, intermittent!) segfaults from the build when running

RSpec and RCov with JRuby
Hi, I am using JRuby (trunk) and wrote a bunch of specifications for my code. Everything works fine so far. Now I am trying to integrate RCov in my test run. I have installed RCov without the C extensions. I tried it with a simple script and it worked (pretty slow, but it doesn?t matter). But when I add the rcov options to my Rake task, RCov is not invoke properly! Rakefile:

We're sorry, but something went wrong.
Great. I''m in the development environment and that is the error message I get?! What good does that do me? I''m trying to follow along with the examples in AWDWR(3rd.), and I have this method in a store controller: private def find_cart Cart.new end That works fine, except that every request(initiated by clicking on an ''add to cart'' button) will

Branchable migrations -- A plugin to let you organize your migrations
I just put a new plugin named branchable_migrations on Github. Branchable migrations lets you separate your migrations into "branches" (i.e., a director under db/migrate) that each have their own version. Using the forthcoming UTC timestamped migrations and this plugin, you can separate migrations by table or feature. Doing so should alleviate many of the problems that seem to pike up

Routing Error No route matches "/employee/list" with {:method=>:get}
hi, I am very frustrated by this error when I just put together a very simple project from one of the textbook on RoR: Routing Error No route matches "/employee/list" with {:method=>:get} For your reference, #The following is EmployeesController.rb class EmployeesController < ApplicationController scaffold :employee # create scaffold code for controller #

[tip] Test coverage
I was using rcov[1] on my tests and was pleasantly surprised to see that much of my code was being exercised, but somehow the number of lines of test code did not sync up with what I expected so I went looking for models and controllers that were missing unit and functional tests. Here is a rake task you can dump into your Rakefile or /lib/tasks. You can then run: rake missing_tests and it will

Command failed with status (1): [/usr/local/bin/ruby -I"lib:test" "/ usr/loc...] This error just showed up yesterday --- I have no idea how I caused it. Absolutize URLs in a string
I wonder - do we have some helper/processor/gem to automatically convert all URLs in a passed string to their canonical equivalent - i.e. with the protocol, host and such prepended based on the Rails environment. Super-duper infty for RSS feeds (I hate their requirement for canonical URLs everywhere). -- Julian ''Julik'' Tarkhanov please send all personal mail to me at

Working around/with Restful Authentication
I''m using Restful Authentication, and the code to create a user is pretty straight forward - there is a before_save action and a before_create action: before_save :encrypt_password before_create :make_activation_code But for some reason when I try to create a user programmatically in the controller like this: User.new(:email =>

[PATCH] Code coverage support proof of concept
Hello, I submit a patch for review that implements code coverage tracing in the R interpreter. It records the lines that are actually executed and their associated frequency for which srcref information is available. I perfectly understands that this patch will not make its way inside R as it is, that they are many concerns of stability, compatibility, maintenance and so on. I would like to have
