vixie-cron package from RHEL 5 FasTrack?
What is the best way to get the RPM described in the following URL
installed on CentOS 5.2:
   http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2008-0586.html
I have users who can't run cron jobs because their home directories
are NFS mounted, and I believe installing this RPM would fix the
problem. I remember reading that the CentOS developers are working
on supporting the RHEL FasTrack

Centos 5 - Setting up yum for ATrpms
I think I found one of my setup problems. I followed instructions at: http://atrpms.net/install.html
And now I see that the information shown there to put into yum.conf (that I put into yum.repo.d/atrpms.repo) is only for FC, not for RL5 (thus Centos 5).
What do I use in my atrmps.repo to get it to access the RL5 directories?

centOS vs "the upstream vendor"
Hi All;
I have a laptop running the "workstation" version of Linux from RedHat. I've
enabled the EPEL and rpmfusion repos plus I'm subscribed to the following
channels:
    *  Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 for 64-bit x86_64)
    * Red Hat Network Tools for RHEL Client (v.5 64-bit x86_64)
    * RHEL Desktop Supplementary (v. 5 for 64-bit x86_64)
    * RHEL Desktop

CentOS FastTrack repository
The upstream provider has started a new channel called fastrack. It is
detailed here (see the whole thread):
https://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2006-April/msg00001.html
CentOS will also build the fastrack SRPMS. We have created separate
repositories in CentOS-3 and CentOS-4 called fasttrack. (I know the
spelling is different, that is by design. We don't want to use the name

Which repositores?
Hello all
I'm new to RHEL/CentOS so I'm wondering what repositories people
add/enable to get all the extras they want? Especially multimedia stuff.
I tried to enable [contrib] but that didn't seem to be available (yet).
I then added rpmforge and atrpms which seem to work. However I've read
that atrpms may wreak havoc on my installation; is it best to keep it
disabled? What about

Missing update / update announcement
Hi,
the C5 updates to openoffice.org-2.0.4-5.4.26 are available on the
mirrors, but no announcement has come through the centos-announce
mailing list yet.
Also, upstream has released gnome-screensaver-2.16.1-5.el5_1.1 and
gnome-screensaver-2.16.1-8.el5 (FasTrack channel) beginning of April.
Neither is available yet for C5.
Best regards,
Bernd.

Fasttrack Repo on CentOS 4
A quick question on the fasttrack repo which is now
up to date with upstream. Why is the fasttrack repo not
in the main CentOS-Base.repo file but contrib which has never
had anything is included in the main CentOS-Base.repo file?
The goal of CentOS is to be binary-compatible with upstream so
fasttrack is "more important" in this regard than contrib.

Changes at Red Hat confouding CentOS (was: What happened to 6.1)
These seems to me to be the first message in the series and provides a
really good summary of the changes at Red Hat which seem to be making
life a lot more difficult for CentOS.
Just figured I'd pull it out of that thread and change the subject line.
Below Johnny's email I've copied another from the original thread,
written by Lamar Owen, which gives some good explanation on how Red

Selectively updating protected repos
I've been trying out the protectbase plugin for yum, and haven't yet
determined the best way to selectively update a package. E.g. I'd
like to mark the base repo as protected, but get the latest firefox
from the centosplus repo.
What's the correct incantation for this?

How to enable yum at startup with yum 2.9
Hi all,
I updated yum 2.4 to yum 2.9 from ATRPMS by using yum as below.
yum update yum
I now have yum 2.9.
pls see yum ver below
[root at mailgw yum]# rpm -qa |grep yum
yum-2.9.4-74.el4.at
yum-metadata-parser-1.0-7.1_1.el4.at
Before that (i.e when I was running yum 2.4), I could enable yum at startup
as below
chkconfig yum on
and I was also able to start/stop/restart yum as below.

ATRpms repo question...
Hi. I'm fairly new with CentOS but have been using version 4.2 with
great satisfaction (Thank you!). I've been using repos such as Dag and
Dries successfully to keep my packages up to date. (I've seen many
posts which allow me to believe that these repos won't change CentOS
compatibility to RHEL4 or to migrate it another distro for that
matter!) My question applies to the

Managing updates to non-centos packages
Hi,
I'm looking for some documentation (or advice) on how to best manage
a -mostly- upstream binary compatible CentOS installation.
I enabled the rpmforge repository in order to install a few packages
not available in base/updates/centosplus. But, now when I do a "yum
check-update" yum wants to update a whole stack of packages because
it's found newer versions at

Using CentOS repos in a RHEL machine
Hi
I have 2 machines with RHEL 5.2 and I would like to use CentOS repos. I
would like to know if the document "Using CentOS Repositories on RHEL
Machines"[1] can be used in CentOS 5.2 without too much modifications.
Thanks

additional yum repos for 4.3
Hi;
On my Fedora Systems [/etc/yum.repos.d] I have the following repos:
dag.repo
dries.repo
fedora-extras.repo
fedora.repo
fedora-updates.repo
freshrpms.repo
livna.repo
Two questions:
1) Where can I get a .repo file (with centos url's of course) for the
baseic stuff like updates and extras.
1b) Can I use redhat repos?
2) What about the other guys, livna, dag, dries, freshrpms.

What's wrong with yum-priorities?
"The upstream maintainer of yum, Seth Vidal, had the following to say
about 'yum priorities' in September 2009:
Gosh, I hope people do not set up yum priorities. There are so many things
about priorities that make me cringe all over. It could just be that it
reminds me of apt 'pinning' and that makes me want to hurl."
